the character design, most songs and sci-fi concepts were pretty good.
but the execution was a mess, steven was a very boring protagonist until future, and there were to many plot contrivance like ''why garnet future vision is so useless?'' and ''why are the gems so socially inept despite having dealing with humans for thousands of years?''

Despite being credited as the main cast, the three main Crystal Gems stopped being main characters some time during or after season 3. The "Steven-only" perspective wasn't nearly as heavy-handed in seasons 1-3 because most of the time he is usually accompanied by another character to lend their voice on the situation. Steven mulling about his mother's past in solitude with little discussion with anyone else for most of seasons 4 and 5 was frustrating to watch. Completely disregarding almost every possible talking point regarding his mother in season 6 (Future) was such a missed opportunity for any semblance of closure for the viewer. I am sure the writers had their reasons, but I am also certain that their decision to omit Pink/Rose's large background presence in SUF was not what they had initially intended for Pink/Rose's role at the start of the series.
