Not OP, but one thing I always found kinda' interesting about Hawkman is that he's built on contradictions. He's the Wolverine-esque gruff angry loner who plays by his own rules, but he is also the team leader more often than not. He is a modern-day barbarian bashing people's skulls with ancient weapons and walking around covered in his enemies' blood without a care in the world, but he's also an erudite historian and advocate of the fine arts, poetry, all that stuff. Plus he's got a lifetime of memories and experiences, many of them conflicting, inside his head.

They never do much with it, but it's an interesting approach.

Honestly, I'm more drawn to him because he's one of those characters you could never see having a 'Looks like we've failed' moment, the guy is tenacious as all hell in damn near everything he does, whether it's beating up badguys, saving people, or even when it comes to Hawkgirl which he knows full well that because of the curse Khufu put on the two it's almost certainly gonna end in death and heartbreak, he'll still go out of his way to find and remind her of their shared past in the hopes that maybe this time the curse won't destroy them.

What was even the point of bringing Carter into the DCAU after they had already pretty much used Katar, even if they had to change his name to protect the brand?

All of this is new characterization. His whole being a flying Vandal Savage is mostly Johns' doing from the mid 00s.

The biggest thing Johns changes made that I really don't like is how the whole Hawk theme is very secondary. His whole shtick is all about being reincarnation guy who remembers skills from past lives, all his stories are wrapped around past life shit and origin exploring, and past lives as different heroes etc.

The being a haw and flying is not even remotely important to the character anymore. It does not even make sense for him to have a hawk theme at this point. Everything bout him is nothing but past lives, reincarnation, barbarian savage Conan-lite now.

Sounds like Wolverine though... you know he's lead teams, right? you know he's also lived for a long time, right? You know he also hits the blood hungry best but with a heart of gold archetype and he even gets loli sidekicks.

Hawkman has also starred in his own porno, which also involved Gentleman Ghost.

That's the thing. Hawkman doesn't really have a "heart of gold". He's a hotheaded, authoritative asshole most of the time, and his hidden depths are more about how cultured he is than how soft he is when it counts.

And his style of leadership is different. He is actually very strict and tactical-minded despite fighting like a berserker.

He's kinda based in the DC Legend game but still cucked by Hawkgirl by comparison
