Why does animation get no respect?

"aren't you a little old to watch animated stuff?"

Because old people live too long anymore

Soul = fun
the other animation movies = pretentious garbage

Anomalisa was a genuine masterpiece.

yeah, driving my point home. Thank you

apostle's animation of lisa simpson is pretty respectable

Transformers = fun
The other live action movies = pretentious garbage

Mirai sucked ass

>Why does animation get no respect?
Because Western animation looks retarded. The only form of animation that deserves respect is the Japanese

>spinning like a retard while fighting: the movie

I mean, Japanese animation don't get respect in Japan either.

I loved Summer Wars and Wolf Children but I could not make it through Mirai. After the kid tried to bash his baby sister's head in with a toy train even after going on an adventure with her future self I turned it off.

I've never seen anyone who called something pretentious who wasn't retarded

lol what even is this nonsense

Didn't miss out on much. It was trying way too hard to be """'wholesome"" and also a rip off of Ghibli. Hard to believe the man behind something as based as Summer Wars made something so mediocre.

>It was trying way too hard to be """'wholesome"" and also a rip off of Ghibli.
It paid off: it was the first non-Ghibli anime movie to get nominated.

No it didn’t. It was beautiful and comfy.

but are there pretentious things?

Cringe if their only goal was to get nominated for a shitty award

man, martial arts really are silly

this is how retards in high school fight lmao, what a waste of animation

I guess most of the “Oscar bait” live action movies

I have a story about my dad that most of you won't believe. When my dad was young, be practiced Isshin-Ryū karate, eventually becoming a brown belt. When he was dating my mom, they went to see my uncle, my mother's brother, compete at a taekwondo tournament. While there, my father someone got himself a spot in the roster, filling in for someone who wasn't able to attend -- remember, my father is practicing a Japanese martial art at a tournament for a Korean martial art. During every fight, whenever his opponents would attempt one of these flashy spins or high-kicks, my father would punch them in the solar plexus.

He won the tournament, and to this day it's the only trophy from his fighting days that he's kept.

Animation is good for action. Especially action that isn't as easy to do with special effects and live action. The most respected movies in the industry are about people standing/sitting around and talking, where all the action is basically limited to character body language and emoting, but nothing terribly visually interesting other than what the camera might be doing. Animation would either be wasted by doing something that could just as easily be done in live-action, but be less respected simply by virtue of being less realistic, or the medium is embraced and it's considered low-brow because there's actually action happening.

Western animation awards are basically just "movies my kids liked, and I tolerated" awards.

Too bad Japanese can't write a plot to save their lives.
Seriously, an average episode of The Owl House, Gravity Falls or Wander over Yonder has better writing, character interactions and jokes than most anime, and they were explicitly marketed in the 8-12 age bracket.
Even in the example you posted, most of the fighting comes down to
>I'm faster than the others
How lazy can you be? This is a complete waste of a scene. Nothing is demonstrated besides ponytail is good at fighting which is established in the first ten seconds, and everything is moving too fast to tell what's happening.

Go watch everything by Tartakovsky to learn how animation should work, then come back here.

>Too bad Japanese can't write a plot to save their lives.
That applies to everyone tho
>an average episode of The Owl House, Gravity Falls or Wander over Yonder has better writing
Seriously? using GF as an example of good writing? What are you gonna say next, that ATLAS ending was a masterpiece?
>everything is moving too fast to tell what's happening
Lmao get a pair of glasses you boomer

This is why Yas Forums is the worst board on Yas Forums.
