Who needs theaters anyway

>The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said on Tuesday that films with a previously planned theatrical release that are initially made available on a commercial streaming or VOD service will still qualify for the Oscars.

>The temporary rule exemption is meant to address disruptions to theatrical exhibition caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The exemption will end when theaters reopen. At that point, films will be expected to follow the usual Oscar regulations, which require that a film be shown in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County for a theatrical run of at least seven consecutive days, during which period screenings must occur at least three times daily.

>This adjustment to the rules particularly benefits animated movies like Trolls World Tour and Scoob!, which have opted for VOD launches. They are now assured of being considered for the Oscars for all the categories in which they would normally qualify.

PIRATE CHADS WIN AGAIN

Speilberg is probably fucking furious right now.

Man, I can't wait for Sonic the Hedgehog and Birds of Prey to sweep the Oscars

Not that either would actually win assuming Disney's black man turns into something not black with artificial feels film still comes out

>Rules were changed to steal the award from Sonic the Hedgehog.

This, who gives a shit. Just give Soul the award already. Let's not even wait, we all know it's gonna happen.

>Sonic winning an Oscar
I can see it now, the first ever movie based on a video game franchise winning an Oscar.

It'll be glorious. Yas Forums, Yas Forums, and Yas Forums would all erupt.

Why does Hollywood care so much about the cinema? Does Spielberg own a chain of theater's?

I don't fucking care anymore dude only fucking retarded fuckimg faggots give a shit about award shows. 99.9999% of new movies that win awards are fucking garbage, hollywood has produced nonstop shit for the last 15 years who fucking cares you fucking faggots. Only people deep within the matrix unironically give a fuck about the oscars the grammys or any other fucking award show you are all reddit normalfaggots.

Trolls is actually a legit good movie even tough the story is pretty basic. the animation is really good and i liked how they stylized all troll areas with their music type.
HOWEVER as pointed out, having sonic be nominated AND win would give us shitposting material for decades.

Sonic is a live action movie, it won't get nominated.

the real outrage should be that the academy doesn't accept animated movies on stream platforms or VOD.

this, they already need to know that actual cinema is already a outdated format, a something that used to work in the last century when internet wasn't much of a thing.

Academy Awards barely pay attention to the animated film category. Anomolisa didn't get nominated. Not even a fucking nomination.

"It's Such A Beautiful Day"? I'm betting it didn't get nominated either yet garbage like "Trolls World Tour" is in the talks to get a nomination.

Academy awards are primarily for American live action. Animation and non-American movies are just given lip service.

Spielberg probably doesn't care to be honest, he was more frustrated at how theaters refuse to accept any reasonable compromise nytimes.com/2019/04/23/business/media/steven-spielberg-netflix-academy-awards.html

Anomalisa got nominated. Shame ISABD didn't though. oscar.go.com/news/nominations/anomalisa-gets-oscar-nomination-for-best-animated-feature-film

>the Oscars
Don't matter

Until something we like wins, then they magically matter again.

It's a quote from a critic put on the poster by marketing. Can't blame the actual creators of the movie for that.

I wish LAIKA made serious and mature movies like it instead of kiddy stuff like Boxtrolls and Missing Link

Pixar movies are at their best and most heart wrenching when they're tackling mature subjects kids couldn't be expected to understand.

honestly sonic was pretty great

The title character may be the goofy comic relief for the kids, but I wouldn't necessarily call Missing Link kiddie shit on the level of Boxtrolls.

No. They didn't have planned theatrical releases.

>Anomolisa didn't get nominated. Not even a fucking nomination.
It DID get nominated, but lost to Inside Out

WB could say they had secret plans to release them in theaters.
