Amazing Spider-Man Thread

You know the drill, talk all things Spidey related. Runs, characters, highs, lows, Kindred's identity, whatever.

First talking point; What are your thoughts on multiple villains with the same gimmick? As the picture shows we have
>Two Electros
>Two Octopus with doctorates
>Multiple Beetles
>Two Scorpions
And of course tech just becoming common for hired goons like Jack-o-Lantern's stuff. What are your thoughts on this? Is there room for everybody, or should some characters retire/find new gimmicks? Which by the way, where is Max? Could he and Francine get along, and both be "Electro"?

Kindred is just western comic clickbait/cliffhanger shit to string along and keep people buying the low effort stuff in between in hopes of a hint. Someone reading it after it's all out will experience 0 impact.

Wrong. I'm actually invested in the non-Kindred story points too.

Yeah, Boomerang is fun.

I just want the follow-up to issue #29 bros.

At least the pandemic delay hit before Sins Rising started. Shit would've sucked finally seeing the Kindred/Peter encounter and hen having to wait 2+ months for more.

Is Screwball destined for a movie?

>His fans are actually called Boomers
Isn't Sins Rising just a tie-in book? I think that issue is just showing what Sin-Eater is up to before Peter finally clashes with him, like hunting down guys like Overdrive

What you mean like a porno? Which by the way, greatly prefer that Screwball design. She should get some easy cash doing cam girl stuff.

But seriously though, I'm kind of coming around to Screwball, at least conceptually. I like many other people rolled there eyes at the idea of a streaming attention whore villain just there to get fame/likes from battling heroes, but then after thinking about it I kind of get the gimmick. Self-made internet celebrities are now going to remain a thing as technology progresses, and its totally understandable that a whackjob would try to get famous by battling street level heroes, even if its basically domestic terrorism. She's kind of like Arcade, only less elaborate tech and more "its about me!". Which by the way, do you consider Arcade a Spider-Man or X-Men foe?

I love female Beetle

She's a special kind of ass hole. I like the idea of a kid that grew up around super villains growing up to want to be one. Better yet she's completely over confident looking down on other villains believing her color coded plan will go off perfectly. She's a villain who's not above screwing over other villains.

It's kind of surreal. The moment she popped up in Spider-Man/Deadpool was the moment she seemed to have a massive turnaround. She appeared in both the Spider-Man cartoon, the PS4 video game and the Spider-Man manga, and I was shocked that I began to like her as a character. It's someone desperate for fame, and that's kind of unique compared to every other villain these days being a super strong powerhouse who has some personal grudge against the main hero. Screwball has a gimmick and she has a theme. The theme is "I want all the attention", and it kind of makes her endearing after a while.

And yes, the ponytail look is so much better than the helmet look.

Attached: Capture5.png (889x638, 1019.36K)

Yeah I hate the helmet look. Makes her appear like a cyclist. She's almost Riddler tier now, except for the fact that she's just a hacker and doesn't really do anything else with her intellect. Then again, leaving clues to your crime is kind of stupid to begin with but who am I to judge? I just have to question how she'll keep her shows fresh, and keep the up the followers. There's only so many times you can plant bombs around the city, or use drones to harass the public.

I honestly think I prefer Slott's run on the character. Spencer's writing right now reminds me of his run on Morning Glories. The story is a perpetual tease and while it has cool aspects, it is abundently clear that it has no roadmap (likely because he doesn't have a story bible prepared or a Box of Index cards like Weisman). Slott at least had the balls to deliver and attempted to shake up the status quo. Something else I sorely miss is Slott's ultra compressed writing. on the one hand it gave us dialog that was incredibly on the nose. On the other, if you skipped a page you could potentially have missed a massive chunk of story. SLott gave bang for your buck.

Spencer's run might be more consistent, but his highs are never going to come close to Slott's.

That's Scorpia. There are 2 Scorpions, but the other's Hulk's daughter.

Out of all the Spider-Man media i've consumed over the past 30 years, I maintain my favorite story is "A Death in the Family" Peter Parker - Spider-Man #44-47

Attached: Osborn - Blames Peter.jpg (1000x3002, 1.33M)

>compared to every other villain these days being a super strong powerhouse who has some personal grudge against the main hero
You described literally nobody in the OP.

But Slott wasn't writing the character, he was writing Otto Octavius. Anyone can "shake up the status quo", and the only time you can really praise it is if the idea is worth keeping around to become the new standard, which isn't the case here. A good progression one could argue could be say, Peter Tomasi's Superman run, where he made Clark Kent a family man and father.

SpOck only really had traction under Chris Gage, where Otto had the freedom to do his own thin in a hybrid body in San Francisco. But even then, one could argue "Superior Doctor Octopus" was a better progression/look, and unfortunately all of it was undone in the end anyway.
Yes we know her name, but its basically just female Scorpion

>Faster than my spider-sense
Slott did that stupid bullshit more than once?

>Peter Tomasi's Superman run, where he made Clark Kent a family man and father.
Absolutely stellar character.

Also I'm going to admit that pic probably wasn't the best choice. I enjoyed Slott's version of Peter far more than I actively disliked it.

I'm going to give Slott SOME credit and admit he had the occasional good idea, but usually his good stuff was unexplored or poorly realized. Like for example take Mister Negative; good idea, but Slott didn't really do anything stellar with him

Attached: Mister Negative.jpg (935x1067, 281.72K)

What's she doing after Spider-Man/Deadpool? I like her more as an anti-hero and I want to see her become one of Pete's allies he'll bust out on occasion like Cardiac or some shit.

Slott had no highs. I'd also say you're retarded in that Spencer obviously knows what he's doing and where he's leading to. He's set this mystery up and nearly everything has tied into it in some way. Kindred is basically just his take on the Hobgoblin mystery which makes sense because Stern is his favorite Spider-Man writer and I'm assuming the identity and motivation was the very first thing he thought of regarding them and probably one of the first things he planned out in his run.

>but usually his good stuff was unexplored or poorly realized.
It may have only been tiny part of something much larger, but I think Slott had a decent handle on Roderick Kingsly and would have loved to have seen more. To expand, I think Slott is one of the few writers I think works "better" when writing criminal characters. His title Arkham Living Hell is a testament to him being able to write a bunch of psychos without coming across as try hard. Johns is another write that I think may be better suited to villains.

>Slott had no highs
>No highs.
Boy are you thinking straigth? Were you not around for this board during the time that issue was released? Yas Forums was gripped by the edge of their seat. We were fucking pumped and were eating up every page. It game us some truly shit panels that are forever terrible, but it also provided some hype as fuck moments. I bet you're the kind of person who would say "The Butlering" wasn't glorious.

Attached: Superior Spider-Man 031-015.jpg (1988x3056, 1.74M)

We also got this masterpiece.

Attached: Superior Spider-Man 031-022.jpg (1988x3056, 2.02M)

What if we retcon Sins Past to reveal Liz fucked Norman, not Gwen?

I admit, the ease by which Osborn escaped the clutches of TWO Spider-Men within arm grabbing range was upsetting. For a while I considered it atrocious writing/panel design. However, upon closer inspection it became obvious how Osborn managed to escape. Obvious in hindsight.

I'm still hoping that Kindred can be crow-barred into removing One more Day.
But while I'm at it, I may as well wish for Spencer top bring back Spider-Man's baby and everyone back to their proper ages.

What if 616 MJ has twins, May and Annie?

>>Norman Osborn an issue ago blew up a bunch of buildings full of innocent people.
>>Gets away
>>Peter "Oh well! We'll get him next time!"

There's a reason why comics aren't as popular as Manga.

>What's she doing after Spider-Man/Deadpool? I like her more as an anti-hero and I want to see her become one of Pete's allies he'll bust out on occasion like Cardiac or some shit.

Bachalo has her cameos in groups of villains here and there, and then Amazing MJ has Mysterio hire her to be watch dog on his movie sets.

Attached: 1587429791327.png (818x1212, 1.54M)

That is true, though group of villains have more variety.

I always thought of it as May then the twins Ben and Annie

So did Spencer just ignore everything from Slott's run?
Can we really skip from 2008 to 2018?

>did he ignore Slott’s run?
Nope, he took a few of the story threads that fucking garden gnome left behind and weaves them into some good comics

Attached: image.jpg (1242x1888, 2.42M)

I actually love that they all survived.
