The conception of 'powerlevelfags' wasn't really set back when 682 was made. It's more likely that Gears simply thought it was a cool idea the time (note that he was likely a teenager at the time). Nowadays most everyone realizes that 682 really isn't as cool as they thought it was. It's only kept around as a historical and occasionally inspirational piece.

Not really, SCP-682 was created to present a situation were the foundation abandoned it's "Secure, Contain, Protect" motto and actively try and destroy an anomaly. The power wank was actually an unintended consequence of making the test log article open to anyone creative enough to write a scenario where 682 survived a seemingly dangerous situation(Note the term "survive", not "defeat in a fight", there are plenty of SCPs stronger then the lizard, it's just the lizard adapts in a way to either avoid them, negate them or a situation arises that the damage done is too high for the foundation to pursue it). Nowdays there are a lot better SCP's that do the "Foundation is desperate enough to destroy it" dilemma better without accidentally becoming a powerwank.

682 isn't weak to the acid (it even eats it). It just doesn't give a damn to leave or is too tired/lazy to bother. Whenever it gets pissed or is otherwise pushed, it breaks out with practiced ease.

2935 quite literally killed anything and everything in the universes it infected, not just 682. It's wildly out of scale for a lot of things and nobody knows how it functions. Amongst other things, 682 has survived the laws of the universe being destroyed around it, the Pattern Screamer void, that one metaphysical pointer, a fucking variety of meta powers, and a ton of other shit Doomday can't compare to. 2935 is an exception, not the rule.
