As in, he's more of a total idiotic, bastard with no regard for empathy than a pretentious outcast-by-intention that takes every shady opportunity to appear "cooler"? If so, then I didn't know that.
In any case, we know that the marketing spread by the local company breach had its part at establishing Sonic and its traits, but even so, him seeming off as just one trait constantly is, at least for me, just tiring and wasted.
I completely understand your sentiment, and it's more than good if you cannot relate. I only beg for your respect, and this is what matters.
Digressing now, I like it for only two, yet straightforward reasons:
1) Because it's good. That is, highly inconsistently good. More specifically, it has its highs and lows, where I appreciate its highs, while disliking, criticizing and mocking its lows (and that makes it part of the appeal, not lessen it, mind you). There are writers to appreciate for it (Bollers, Gallagher, Angelo) as well artists. There are executed stories that you can end up liking, no matter how likely its quantity can be counted totally by one or two hands.
2) Because it offers a lot of uniquely, fascinating content, concepts and ideas, which you cannot find the exact same, everywhere else. No matter how badly-executed are they, I adore the characters, the world-building, the ambition and strive for being always more than what is it, and similar. In lesser words, I just find Archie Sonic neat and cool, concept-wise, and it's worth a lot to salvage everything of it.
>but be outright thankful of it
I guess "grateful" is a bad choice of word to use with, but yes, I'm happy that it exists, and appreciating of what does it offer on the table.
>NOT like the soap opera melodrama.
To be precise, I'm fond of romance and emotions. What I dislike, is merely the execution of them.
>The comic literally has nothing else to offer
You would realize that is a lie if you had, at least, read the early issues.
