Sonic Archie vs Fleetway

So I just finished a complete read through of Fleetway Sonic

I grew up reading the Archie comics since 2003 (I was 2 when I learned to read, and I liked to watch Sonic X), and after the Sonic Archie comics got scrapped (Fuck Ken Penders), I wanted to read through another piece of Sonic media: Fleetway

This take on Sonic is actually based as fuck. Sure, the art had some inconsistencies, Sonic's attitude grew on me as did the storgy telling

Did anyone else read these comics?

I did, they are pretty good, even if aome stories are really dumb, Brutus best non-Robotnik villain

I'm the opposite in regards of how Sonic acts in Fleetway. As much as I have made by best efforts to keep reading the few issues, I just cannot stand the endless jerky attitude of Sonic. It feels rather repetitive and one-dimensional for many issues, and I don't like characters used in this way. I personally prefer Archie's take on Sonic.

It's a pity, as I want to meet Tekno and Shortfuse. Theses two in particular look appealing for me.

Having re-read Fleetway recently, I'd say that there WERE moments of good writing, but a lot of the appeal was
(1) Nifty concepts (like Shortfuse, an animal stuck in an indestructible cybernetic suit), Tekno (scientist that used to work for Robtnik now working for the good guys), or action girl Amy
(2) Some decent use of things from the games (I recognize that setting!), and
(3) A surprising willingness to kill.
Oh and stuff unique to the UK, like being willing to reference the JFK assassination.

But I do think that people overestimated how good it was by comparing it to Penders and Bollers' shite. Compared to Flynn's run... neither stands out as way better than the other.

It had this beautiful piece of art

Did they ever do a physical collection of the Archie comics? All I can find are paperbacks

Is there a good link to Fleetway?
I don't think I've ever read it

Same here, tried multiple times. Every time, I just couldn't deal with Jerkwad the Hedgehog & his whole "Jekkyl/Hyde" thing with Super Sonic (despite them giving plausible reasons for it). I like how it does some things differently but sometimes it took things too far. And while the art is beautfiul to look at, compared to the dynamism of the Archie or even the french books, Fleetway looks too stiff.

I have read the issues with Tekno & Shortfuse, and Shorty is probably my fav character out of the bunch; he's a friggin rage squirrel with a war machine suit who wants to be a hero!

way past cool

IDW feels so bland without these guys

> his whole "Jekkyl/Hyde" thing with Super Sonic (despite them giving plausible reasons for it)
That's much better though

Readcomiconline has it all.

I also don't understand Americans' thing with "oh noooo Sonic's mean nooo", but I guess it explains the overly melodramatic soap opera cheesy Archie stuff getting popular

>I also don't understand Americans' thing with "oh noooo Sonic's mean nooo"
It's mostly because they've known Sonic for over 20 years with a completely different personality, and then suddenly stumble across all these comics where he's completely "out of character".

I read them as a kid, but lost interest around #100 or so.
I liked them, but was disappointed when they phased out the non-Sonic strips

Is there a janitor deleting and censoring everything I say? All I did in was simply to wonder more of what the other said.

Not that I disagree, but let's not repeat one of the mainstays quirks of Ian, which is relying too much at fanservice, retreadings. I would be more than welcome for them to come back, but I would like for them to be, for once, explored in many new ways and kinds of character developments and such, and not for mainly stroking nostalgia.

It has less to do he's too much of a jerk for the audience to handle, more to his lack of flesh and depth for his personality. As I said before, he doesn't offer anything else besides outright and stupidly ugly and asshole to others. I can't say anything much of Fleetway, but he remains in this way for many issues, and it makes you wonder the point of rest of his friends insisting to stick with him.

I suppose it's just I don't see the appeal in theses personalities, but the main issue I spoke off is the same for Maximillian and, for a certain degree, Scourge.

>it explains the overly melodramatic soap opera cheesy Archie stuff getting popular
That's not one of the reasons I'm personally grateful of Archie Sonic and its take at Sonic, much less am I American.

Your description fits me just thoroughly. For years I have played the games before investing myself recently into the Archie comics, with the difference being myself appreciating how Sonic acts in the series.

Sonic UK is more smeghead than hipster

>That's not one of the reasons I'm personally grateful of Archie Sonic and its take at Sonic
I don't see how you can not only like Archie Sonic, but be outright thankful of it, and NOT like the soap opera melodrama. The comic literally has nothing else to offer

>the french books
there were French comics?

weird, it looks like they did delete a totally innocuous post

This shit was my childhood. Granddad used to read it to me every time a new issue released and even watched me beat the original Sonic Adventure.

Miss you

As in, he's more of a total idiotic, bastard with no regard for empathy than a pretentious outcast-by-intention that takes every shady opportunity to appear "cooler"? If so, then I didn't know that.

In any case, we know that the marketing spread by the local company breach had its part at establishing Sonic and its traits, but even so, him seeming off as just one trait constantly is, at least for me, just tiring and wasted.

I completely understand your sentiment, and it's more than good if you cannot relate. I only beg for your respect, and this is what matters.

Digressing now, I like it for only two, yet straightforward reasons:

1) Because it's good. That is, highly inconsistently good. More specifically, it has its highs and lows, where I appreciate its highs, while disliking, criticizing and mocking its lows (and that makes it part of the appeal, not lessen it, mind you). There are writers to appreciate for it (Bollers, Gallagher, Angelo) as well artists. There are executed stories that you can end up liking, no matter how likely its quantity can be counted totally by one or two hands.
2) Because it offers a lot of uniquely, fascinating content, concepts and ideas, which you cannot find the exact same, everywhere else. No matter how badly-executed are they, I adore the characters, the world-building, the ambition and strive for being always more than what is it, and similar. In lesser words, I just find Archie Sonic neat and cool, concept-wise, and it's worth a lot to salvage everything of it.

>but be outright thankful of it
I guess "grateful" is a bad choice of word to use with, but yes, I'm happy that it exists, and appreciating of what does it offer on the table.

>NOT like the soap opera melodrama.
To be precise, I'm fond of romance and emotions. What I dislike, is merely the execution of them.

>The comic literally has nothing else to offer
You would realize that is a lie if you had, at least, read the early issues.

>while the art is beautfiul to look at, compared to the dynamism of the Archie or even the french books, Fleetway looks too stiff.
That's a good point, now that you mention it. Sonic and Knuckles themselves, in special, are making more often than the necessary the same poses, and same faces.

All I want is just discuss about Sonic and its comic series while posting my husbando. I would never shitpost or bring flamewars right away to the chosen place for spending gracefully my time within discussion and contribution. I don't understand the motive behind the mysterious censoring imposed to me lately.

Unless I might be seeming off as a fanboy for a while? That's neither, nowhere, my intention. I'm a little worried now, though, that I could be behaving as one, hence probably the deletions.

Uhhh

Tried reading the Archie series, something about the colours that put me off. Fleetway while having a few different artists is easier on the eye.

For the most part

>that comic page
>smashed into the ground
>and then stabbed twice in the back
Ouch

I don't suppose when Archie was doing its big, multi-world crossover storyline, it brought in any of the Sonic the Comic characters?

I gotta say, the colouring in the Fleetway comics was gorgeous at times

>Tried reading the Archie series, something about the colours that put me off.
Really? How so?
