Ben can follow people through time and you can't just cut off the omnitrix since it has a repulsive shockwave and a bunch of failsafes in case the user is in trouble it would just switch him to another alien like goop, atomix, or alien x
hell the omnitrix can still operate and control a lossed limb when disconnected from the body
