I just watched season 1 of South Park on Netflix and I loved every second of it. Sure the animation is dated and it's not as expressive and detailed as new South Park but I'd rather watch it over the crap the show is today.
It genuinely didn't feel like the episodes were written within a week with how well plot points tie together.
Now it's just a shameful recap of that week's news with Matt and Trey thinking they're smart and edgy with "muh celebrity impersonations".
At least the show isn't suffering as badly as Simpsons or Family Guy.
It is interesting to see how, in a sense, the show was richer back then in some ways. Wendy (and a lot of the female characters before Mary Kay Bergman killed herself) had more screentime and could be just as awful as the boys, ancillary characters like Pip, Jimbo & Ned had larger parts, some characters like Mephesto's son Terrence were set up to be rivals and the show seemed to be parodying The X-Files with all the appearances by the visitors and arguably following a Monster of the Week format.
I can't say I don't prefer the direction the show took and even now it isn't as awful as Zombie Simpsons, but we really did lose a lot from the early years.

I came in this thread to just play spot kylefag and I won first post holy shit hows your weekend kylefag, my little cousins birthday was today and he just turned 11 so thats around Kyles age
I really prefer post-season 4 South Park. The three first seasons were playing very heavy on the "let's be edgy and hardcore" aspect rather than actual themes.
