The comic strip "Heart of the City" by Mark Tatulli is being handed to another cartoonist, Eisner and McDuffie Award winner Christina "Steenz" Stewart, starting Monday.
Also, comic strip thread I guess.

soul. soulless.
>The left has soul, right
Neither of them stands out much. You could have told me the left was from a comic like Zitz and I would have believed you.
New one looks like an absolutely generic webcomic character.
Wow what a completely unremarkable design or art style
Any examples of the new comic? The design seems too detailed for a newspaper toon desu.
Not officially until tomorrow, but if this tweet is any indication of what's to come:

both of them suck. I don't read newspaper comics, but the one on the left looks like some family circus bullshit and the one on the right looks like tumblr. neither have anything that jumps out at me about the designs. is this a main character or just a random drawing of a townsperson? I dunno.
this was made on SAI.
how can you tell?
I found this, definitely feels a bit too "tumblr" for my taste even though OP pic looked fine.
That better be a sketch and not the final inked version
I'm a little concerned about the direction the strip will go now, just seeing the "process" of what they shared makes it a bit ingenuine.
>6 fingers
yikes
To be fair, after over 20 years, there really wasn't much of a direction.
>Eisner award
Completely lost all meaning and worth
That's what the time skip (if you can call it that) back in 2018 was supposed to be for I thought, to give it more "direction" and new settings to play with. I think Tatulli was simply trying to reinvigorate his love for the comic, but failed. Unfortunate.
Also what in the living FUCK did this woman do to Addy?
>6 fingers
And in she has 4 fingers. Maybe the joke is that she never has the correct number of fingers?
Old one look like an absolutely generic newspaper comic strip character. Gotta evolve with the time.
For me personally, left reminds me of cute children books from my childhood while right is just generic tube body blob that passes as a webcomic oc.
Lio is Tatulli's biggest success and it's clear that enjoys writing about weird, quirky stuff more, with how many nonsensical stories that went nowhere made its way into Heart. Passing it on to someone else was for the best.

That seems retarded for a comic this young and relatively unknown.
Like I've read it and recognize it but I'm the kind of weirdo who follows newspaper strips.
Also wild for a legacy strip to change so much visually.
That’s a shame, I always enjoyed Heart especially since it takes place in Philly
Dean better still be a huge weird Nerd
fpbp
The new art style looks so fucking bad, who would approve this?
It's over 20 years old. How is that young?
This.
Right looks like the artist put her in very baggy clothes to avoi having to actually draw anatomy.
Well this art is terrible, can the guy not emulate the original style?
Basically they decided not to and the editors told them it way okay because "it was their strip now"
I remember this YEARS ago and she was a little kid.
She actually aged up?
That's cool I guess.
>Now you know TWO syndicated comic strip artists that are black women.
Why does everyone but The mom have a different hair color? This honestly looks like a terrible fan fiction comic like sonichu
