It went to shit when it made a cashgrab sequel to a timeless classic made by a true pioneer of animation. After the first movie, every fucking sequel has the exact same plot:

>We have to go to the Mysterious Beyond to find the flower/cure/comet/longnecks/ocean/aliens/whatever resolves the plot
>The grownups won’t let us, here’s a dumb subplot where they yell our names and look for us
