Making Archie the heavy is unironically a great direction.
And I haven't even mentioned that Jughead and her share a brother, Charles Cooper. Betty initially believed he was a gay prostitute, but that turned out to be Charles' sociopathic gay lover Chic masquerading as Charles to destroy Betty's family. Betty gave him up to her serial killer father Hal, but Hal spared Chic and used him as an enforcer in his and Cheryl's mother's plot to destroy Riverdale with a mind-controlling D&D game. Chic ended up in prison, and Charles revealed himself as the FBI agent trying to take down the organ-harvesting religious cult that Betty's family had gotten mixed up with, but, TWIST, Charles and Chic are in cahoots together in some nefarious plan that probably involves videotaping everyone in Riverdale.
And he convinced Betty to become a literal camwhore.
Archie is literally the best character in the show. Not only he gets the most ludicrously entertaining plot-lines, he's obviously the writers' least favorite character, which actually allows him to evolve from the hardships he faces.
Seriously. Veronica, Jughead, Cheryl and especially Betty never really struggle. They're hit with a setback early into every episode, and it solves itself by the end. Archie is the only one who constantly deals with shit, so much he went from aw shucks boy next door to Batman-lite.

It is like when Kevin was cruising for men in the forest (because grindr doesn't exist in Riverdale universe). They do this whole woke storyline and it devolves into Betty telling him off because serial killers and shit yo.

I like how the show had an entire episode against revenge porn, and now their go-to solution to take a character out for a while is having Kevin and that gay serpent drug, abduct and sexually assault said character on the game, and it's supposed to be okay because it's "just" tickle porn.
