Why has nobody done anything interesting with her since Claremont?
Why has nobody done anything interesting with her since Claremont?
Storm basically exists to be an object of lust. Not that I'm complaining, she's been universally hot since Giant Size #1. I hope she continues to be a walking mass of sexiness.
What else is there to do?
I thought she had an interesting bit on the fox cartoons. Was Claremont still writing for X-men back then?
Has anyone really done anything interesting with X-Men since Claremont
People don't like to acknowledge Storm exists because it contradicts the narrative that there have never been strong ethnic females in capeshit
Because the X-writers would rather write about other characters or make new characters.
Here's a thought: How would you make Storm more relevant?
>Here's a thought: How would you make Storm more relevant?
Make her the leader of a breakaway X-Men team with Wolverine, Beast, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Angel and have her romantically linked with Wolverine making their AU daughter canon.
Attempts have been made. I don't think anyone but Claremont really gets how to write a good story with her. He had it from the beginning, naturally, because he is a fetish-loving wacko and he sublimated it into his work. Here's what Claremont understands - with Storm it's all about the suffering. Now this works because she's basically flawless. Her powers have no drawbacks, she's morally upstanding and impossibly beautiful. How do you write an interesting story around that?
Well, she gets shot with a laser that takes away her powers. She's forced to knife-fight a punk rocker who wants to rape her friend in the sewers. Dr. Doom turns her into a statue and she has claustrophobia so bad that when she gets out she almost kills everyone. And so in. Bad shit happens. Characters like Storm needs real adversity to have a good story. Claremont understood that, and that's why he wrote her in constant peril. It was also his fetish.
I think AoA in the 90s was the last interesting thing they did. Everything after this felt like keeping a comatose person needlessly alive even after all re-animation attempts failed.

FTFY.

Also, post hawt Storms.

It's hard for me to decide what Storm's best look is.
If you are an X-Men, you are only an X-Men.
If the story is not about being an X-Men, what's the story gonna be about? Sadly not everyone can be Deadpool or Wolverine.
she's exceedingly virtuous and she's tied to a mythology/culture that few people know anything about.
This, Claremont was really invested in her, yet made her enough to have a mental breakdown and run naked in the streets. But all the suffering made her cool
Is Storm still claustrophobic? I honestly don't remember.
She hasnt been a character for over a decade. Reduced to being fap material for writers with jungle fever.
Storm had a mild case of suffering fetish honestly. Rachel and Rogue suffered a lot, too. Rahne is where he went all in with both physical and mental suffering
No, since no matter what you do, you need to get back to the status quo. That or just denigrate, mutate or kill the characters in a way that nobody cares anymore.
This, every member of the X-Men is too tied down in "woe is me for being a mutant" bullshit and writers can't seem to move past that. You want to know why Wolverine is the only X-Men that can consistently have a solo title that sells, writers did more with him than just the typical "mutant persecution" storyline in his books.
I always thought that she was the Mom for the X-Men in the way that Prof. X could be the Dad. Xmen Evo aged her up, and her nephew was apart of the team in that show. she felt in a lot of post-morrison comics like a worn down but concerned lady. Never read much Claremont/90s stuff with her
Wasn't she a delinquent back in her youth? Why not do a spin off about that? Are delinquent heroes even a thing in the west?
Storm is fucking weird. She has connections to shadow king, who was supposed to be the ultimate big bad for the x men, she is a former thief, has a childhood trauma, spend years in the desert learning to control her powers, has latent magical abilities, was the leader of the x-men and morloks, used to have problems with expressing emotions and even has an established hobby - gardening. Had her special Life Death issues (with the third one being published by fantagraphics). She has so much going on for her it's fucking mind boggling
Well they tried when they married her to Black Panther, which honestly was the best thing for her. She actually did stuff, but X-fans threw a hissy fit and now she's back to being a back ground character.
>has latent magic abilities
This is what writers should lean on, have her go into the supernatural corners of the Marvel Universe.
Fuck it, have her team up with brother woodoo and write some mystical horror series inspired by african mythology
>actually did stuff
No she didn't, she was Panther's trophy wife because Hudlin wanted a black power couple but had Storm do jack shit.
Would be a fun book, her and Voodoo would be a better pairing than him and Wanda.
You just posted it nibba
