I barely even watched this as a kid but listening to the theme song gives me this weird, wistful feeling that nothing else does. Maybe it was because this was my first real taste of a show with actual continuity and not some mindless episodic comedy/slice of life

I'd say yes. There's a few plot holes, season 1 might get repetitive, but it's a powerful show with some memorable characters and a story that makes you want more of it. As for the language, I don't know about french, but I preferred spanish over english

Did anyone else get sad when XANA was finally kill and they show the virtual world and its just completely empty and dead, then gets shut down entirely to boot? It felt wrong

Yeah, this. I was too young to know that dubs were a thing, so I was just confused by how bad the voice acting was.

More recently I looked up the original French dub and was surprised to find the French voices extremely distasteful. Maybe I'm too used to Japanese.
