I dunno, I think this man has the right to mock that cheap artstyle.
I understand why Yas Forums seethes at the term Cal Arts Style, but it's a fairly decent term.
It's kind of like Anime Style in that way. Anime Style refers to a broad array of similar traits within a style of animation, and although no two Anime Styled works look exactly the same, the same general trends pervade a good deal of them. You know an Anime when you see it, or at least something heavily anime inspired, like ATLA.
Cal Arts styled works do share a good number of homologous elements, the rounded, simplistic shapes, the minimalist detail, the soft colorings, and so on.
It's a good term, like Gothic or Mannerist, both of which are terms which just get associated with art movements through no self-identification.
I do think it's really ugly, though, but I like Gravity falls.
That's really a shit comparison when even in a current season you'll see ten vastly different art styles. Nobody says all cartoons look the same because that's a retarded statement, but the blanket of calarts with the exact same smile and bendy limbs is incredibly apt.
>I understand why Yas Forums seethes at the term Cal Arts Style, but it's a fairly decent term.
I agree.
The more it angers Twitter and Tumblr...the better!
It's satire right?
He tagged it as "Calarts" and "Banana teeth style", What do you think?
>vastly different
if you arent watching it and most people arent watching it then it doesnt exist. at best you get like 4 shows out of the 35 that air in a season that didnt use some kind of template design. out of the 4 maybe 1 gets popular enough for people will actually watch and remember it past its aired season which is almost a once every other year occurrence

>Scythe.
i saw the trailer. if they arent going to put in the full effort for what is essentially the watertower's mickeymouse then whats the point. i got a feeling you looneytoon shills are going to be a pain when the shit starts airing.
>That's really a shit comparison when even in a current season you'll see ten vastly different art styles
I'm not saying it's as dominant as the Anime Style or that all cartoons subscribe to it, but it is definitely a substyle of Western Animation that is fairly popular today.
>SU
>GF
>Craig of the Creek
>OtGW
>SvtFE
>WBB
>Clarence
>Gumball
>Thundercats Roar
All these works subscribe to the style for the most part, but there are also lots of cartoons that don't. However, this is definitely the most popular substyle today, and the one that's most unique and representative of the mid to late 2010s.
>BUT NOT EVEN ALL OF THOSE CREATORS WENT TO CAL ARTS
Doesn't matter, like the term "Gothic" it's a slightly pejorative term that just kind of stuck. Everyone knows what you're talking about, and that's how it'll be remembered.
Thay are already a pain, I'm a big Looney Tunes fan but this looks like shit...I was expecting great animation.
>otgw
>gumball
>more than half the shit on your list stopped airing more than 2 years ago
i want to say you're baiting but at the same time you are proving post correct with that picture.
We were calling them Cal Arts back then too. It's not a new phenomenon.
Yeah. Calarts is fucking gay though.
>Tumblr
Were you frozen in an Iceberg for the last 3 years?
>I was expecting great animation.
That's what you get for listening to the hype train.
I knew something was up back when this board kept getting "The new shorts will save Western animation" threads with no new clips or art to back it up. When you see really vague hype like that popping up over and over, it's a red flag.
>Anime Style
SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP
the truth
will set you free
Why are you Yas Forumsmblrites such big dummies.
Styles are not monolithically uniform, they simply refer to long running homologous elements and traits that are emblematic of a certain influence pool.
All Anime from Astro Boy to Devil Man Cry Baby have certain design elements in common that reveal them all as anime.
This is actually a substyle of Anime which I'd call the Kyoani Style. Basically the Cal Arts Style of Yas Forums.
Yes.
Tom & Tony have a good podcast, and they're always funning on how students mock them for not knowing what Japanimation is.
Dunno, were you?
They are CalArts, tho.
The sad thing is it probably would.
He's really talented and has shared a bunch of interesting behind-the-scenes images online. I'm a little bit creeped out by how much he likes Pumbaa and associates himself with the character, though.
Take one look at those hashtags, or at his Twitter to see how he usually prefers to draw. Of course it's just a joke.

Just put your fingers in a paper shredder and spare us any more.

Everyone is Pumbaa, user.
