Was it a bad ship?

Nit inherently but goddamn did they not bother to do anything interesting with it at all.

Yes because people are now defending a character who was demonstrably presented as being evil, committing experiments on her population, executing them at will, and imprisoning them indefinitely, while getting literally zero comeuppance for it, simply because she hooked up with a girl.

Yes.
But Gumshall is a good ship only because Bubbline's kind of relationship fits 2 gay males better than two lesbians

No.
It started out pretty good, establishing a same-sex relationship in a natural way and without putting it on a podium or making a huge deal out of it.
They didn't really expand on that, but that's par for the course for AT.

Retards will cry about it because of muh SJWs or because they wanted one of the to end up with FInn, but it's not a bad ship.

the duality of lgbt anons

Let's see. Control freak PB and free-spirit Marcie mixes like oil and water. It's a crack-ship made canon. No one cares anymore.

nails it for me. PB was a fucking cunt and shouldn't have gotten a 100% happy ending. I don't really care who Marceline ended up with if anyone, PB just deserved worse.

I am still annoyed that Gumbald got fucked over in such a half ass manner after bothering to build him up

>Pretty much just as conniving as PB herself if not moreso
>However still genuinely believes what he is doing is right and for the betterment of his people and by extension everyone else
>Out techs her Kingdom in like a month or two
>When they get hit with that nightmare juice shit they are able to see each others views come to an understanding
>Crazy evil shit breaks out and starts attacking everyone and threatens the planet. Surely this is his chance to make amends or at least continue to stand up for his people against this monster using his giant mech
>LOL NAH THE SINISTER AUNT HITS HIM WITH THE RETARD JUICE AND ALL HIS SHIT MEANT NOTHING! He wouldn't have changed so who cares about all that shit we just did!
>Oh but never mind the more sinister aunt who was pulling underhanded shit every time she appeared but had no character development beyond that. She gets to be buddy buddy with PB lol!

Fucking stupid.

First off, there's a distinction between a ship and an actual pairing. I assume that you're asking about the canonical relationship of the show and not the ship in general.

So was it a bad pairing? Yes. Now maybe under different circumstances it could have worked, but by the time their romantic relationship became clear in Season 7, both of their characters had been ruined to the point that any development involving them would be bad. Their relationship served little purpose within the show, it was not the culmination of much and did not lead anywhere.

Their big damn kiss at the end was a meta-moment, not an actual important point in-universe. It's only significance was to make their romance seem significant to the audience, not to any of the characters around them or to themselves.

No.

It was a good, cute, and subtle ship that felt natural. Angry rival shippers just hate it. It's fine to ship what you ship like FinnXBubblegum or FinnxMarceline, but the characters are not real. They're imaginary. There's no reason at all to be unironically truly angry about fucking cartoon character ships. Just enjoy what you enjoy and ship what you ship instead and be happy.

Now the writing on Adventure Time is another story. The end to tons of arcs, especially the Lich Arc, sucked major ass and the way FinnxFlame Princess and FinnxHuntress Wizard was bungled or just not seen through was shit all shipping shit aside.

no, but on a higher level for me. it continues a trend of destroying friendships. not everybody wants to bone everyone else, thirsty fujos.

This is a relatively rare case where I disagree because by the time they started interacting at all on the show, they felt more like ex-lowers than friends, even ex-friends. That said, I would have been okay with an ending where they stayed broken up romantically but learned to be friends, because that is still very rare. But them getting back together is okay, too. Out of the tons of episodes, very few were about them. Their relationship wasn't actually foregrounded or made a focus of the show despite anons here getting obsessed, and that's all that really matters to me. I hate shows that focus on shipping and relationships for the most part because they are nearly always terrible - writers cannot write love for the most part, so I'd rather it be background at best. This background relationship was okay.

>lowers

Hah. Meant to type ex-lovers. They felt like exes from pretty much the beginning. Keeping them like that would have been kind of interesting, too.

I saw them as Heinlein immortals who are on-again, off-again with the occasional fling with mere mortals in the down times.

i could see the exs, but i really feel a lot of modern writers have a hard time writing complex relationships or even the kind of weird friendships people accumulate over the years. it's either shallow BESTIES or the kind of sexual tension that mostly exists in loner slash fic writers that boil every interaction down to "they totally want to bang and cuddle even if they already have romantic relationships AND ESPECIALLY if it's gay, even if the characters are straight."

Fair enough, and most of the time I feel that way too, but this was so dow-low and matter of fact that it felt more like real exes in a circle of friends to me. In this scenario, them getting back together feels more like wish-fulfillment, but too minor a plot point to be the thing that annoyed me about the end of the show. Lots of things about the writing and the end of the show pissed me off, but this was too minor to care much. I also think some of the fan art is cute, but that's not really about the show, just for fun.

you have no conception of romance

I have no problem with their relationship and the way they ended up. The issue was Finn not playing a large enough part in the finale of his own show.

No, but I like finnceline better.

good points, but it got too cuddly. i got more of the whole good as friends, hot in the short term, dumpster fire 6 months in vibe. like bubblegum would get pissed at her for lazying around, then Marceline would get frustrated about PB being controlling, and Bubblegum would be about needing some direction and then there would be angry huffing and being slowly more miserable. it's a mostly calm breakup but there is still an edge of hurt feelings, and sadness.

i have had too many crappy relationships.

Conceptually, yes. They were designed as rivals fitting a Betty/Veronica dynamic within the series' bible.

Execution-wise, who gives a fuck. Everything went off the rails when Pen left and turned into bad fanfiction.

Every forced same-sex relationship based at least partially on fan bullshit is bad. The relationship in She-Ra isn't bad, probably because it's intentional.

Bubblegum was never meant to be an immortal or long-lived monarch. That was a mid-series retcon.

Yeah that's fair, and that was my read of their original break-up. Bubblegum saw Marcy as immature and flaky, Marcy saw Bubblegum as a workaholic, controlling, cold. That might be where they eventually end up again and even again in a cycle, who knows. Still, it's a cartoon and having a rose-tinted ending was okay enough with me, either way was meh, but I wish they had fixed all the show's other many problems. Oh well.

Opposites don't really attract. Mostly they argue. Occasionally they fuse like Skeksis and urRu.

>PB and Marcy fall asleep on the couch up against each other.
>They wake up in the morning and find that PB is stuck in Marcy's hair.
>They don't tell anyone the reason that Marcy suddenly has part of her head shaved.

Yes. How does Marcy pull out?

She stays in, and that becomes their new life.

it's a fanship made canon

it's hot, but I hate that they made such a big fucking deal about it and made finn look like an asshole

This. Marcy's untrimmed bush and Bonnie's bubblegum pussy make for a disaster waiting to happen. I hope she wears a condom......

YES it is. And its absolute cancer

>doesn't use capitalization
don't derail from your shit ship, user. defend it on it's merits instead of shitposting

>defend it on it's merits
it's cute, there now go lick an hospital's floor

notice how these fags never go into the episodes themselves and only use retarded descriptions like "it felt natural!" or "its cute"

I think my biggest issue that many of the shippers don't want to admit is that it shackled Marceline plot wise or character interaction wise, to Bubblegum. In that, she could only do shit with Bubblegum, and seemed to only be friends with Bubblegum.
Like I thought she was joking when she said she didn't want to hang out with Finn because her dad liked him, but goddamn, she was being serious.

And no, this is not me shipping Finn and Marceline, just me point out the fact Marceline's cast of support was moved to just Bubblegum exclusively to push the ship it seems in the end.

>watching Adventure Time
who's the fag now?

she still hung out with lsp and ice king

This 100x over. It felt as if she was only either brought out for feelsbait or to sniff PB's leg after season 4-5. What happened to her ability to raise the undead? No episode with her fucking around with musical incantations? Come on now.

This, it's interesting how they totally avoid PB's actual characterization as a manic tyrant that was consistently portrayed as being morally questionable and just say "they work together!" or "everyone else is just a buttmad X shipper!"

Honestly, after coming back to watch the rest of Adventure Time. I can say that the ship is pretty bad. It’s pretty comparable to the cancer that is the Bumblebee ship from RWBY.
