Nobody supported Rhodesia. My aunt was born there, when it was South Rhodesia, and nobody liked it then. Some countries - including the US, Portugal, South Africa and Iran - violated economic sanctions against Rhodesia, but it was never recognised as a state until it became Zimbabwe in 1980.

Gotta say, for all that Zim is a shithole, it's still a lot better than Rhodesia was. Rhodesia was actually a step down from South Rhodesia, that's how bad it was.
