I'm curious, are there any people who never saw Spongebob as a kid and only just now (or have never) seen it? What are your thoughts on the show Seasons 1-3 and the movie?
I'm wondering if it's nostalgia in part of whole, or if the whole original series was just that great, and I'm curious on how someone in the modern age with little prior personal experience with it would judge it.
I only binged Spongebob somewhen around 2015. S4 is not that different from S3. People just like to oversimplify and pretend like it's possible for a show that was great suddenly instantly go to shit. >but muh writers At least half remained by S4.

>S4 is not that different from S3
>Funny Pants >Patrick SmartPants >SquidBob TentaclePants >Chimps Ahoy >Ghost Host >Karate Island >New Leaf >Wishing You Well >Bummer Vacation >Driven to Tears >Best Frenemies >The Gift of Gum >The Best Day Ever
I mean, the first half of Season 4 does have some pretty solid episodes (I like to think they're leftovers from Season 3 fleshed out), but I don't see how you could judge them to be of the same quality unless you were really unsatisfied with Season 3. Season 3 does have a few duds, but they're mostly relegated to the specials, and even the weakest episodes of Season 3 still tend to surpass the mediocre/average season 4 episodes.
Could you elaborate a bit more? Like, did you really like episodes like Krusty Towers or Krabs a la Mode? Or really dislike some of the Season 3 episodes?

I watched through its seasons as an adult and found the series creative and funny. In my opinion the show didn't immediately drop in quality after S3. Its sense of humor still felt pretty similar for some time after the movie, and there were a bunch of episodes and gags that I enjoyed while watching S4-S5 or so. I also liked the artistic experimenting in some of the later episodes, like alternate animation styles and stuff. It felt to me like the series decreased in quality slowly and gradually during the post-movie seasons, with the number of boring/forgettable/bad episodes steadily taking over as time passed. As for the movie, it was OK but I think I've only watched it once. It wasn't that important to me.
>Patrick SmartPants >Chimps Ahoy >Ghost Host >Wishing You Well >The Best Day Ever I liked these fine. Some of the others you've mentioned were pretty mediocre but mostly nothing that terrible. Funny thing is, I don't think you've even listed the stuff I actually hated, like The Thing As for S3, there was a couple of camping episodes that seemed like carbon copies of each other in tone and style, stuff like the bodyguard episode, Ugh and a few others I didn't really enjoy.

Speaking as someone who was in grade school when the show premiered, I'll tell you it was a huge shock to realize that the time between then and the movie was a mere 5 years. 'Cause as a kid time is endless, and each year is a whole new set of experiences. When I first saw the movie I perceived it as being for something that was basically an institution, when in reality it was actually younger than something like Bob's Burgers is now, which I still regard as a "new" show.
>Are there any people who never saw Spongebob as a kid Unless you count extremely rarely catching couple of minutes of one episode or another - that would be me. We had Fox Kids / Jetix as a main "kids" channel.
>and I'm curious on how someone in the modern age with little prior personal experience with it would judge it. If I'd try and watch it, I'd probably drop it a few episodes in.
Evan Thompson
Well, have you tried and watched it?
Jayden Hernandez
I have, to this day, only ever seen one or two episodes, I don't remember a single thing about them. OP I'll go check some out and tell you what I think if this is even alive by them.
You have any specific episode you wish to have an opinion on?
Ian Allen
Not OP but I think it would be funny if you checked out A Pal for Gary from Season 7 or 6. It is considered one of the best episodes of the show and one of the good post-movie episodes. With this knowledge in mind, tell us your thoughts about it.
William Adams
I found it listed on Season 7 Episode 5 in the second half of the show, Im guessing Ill watch the first half first then get to that.
Carson Cruz
is le epic trolling you
David Cook
What are you talking about? I'm legitimately curious what he thinks of it.

Ok I finished watching both shorts in the episode. I had a chuckle or two, but its a lot of frantic motions and absurdity for the most part. I thought the first short was a bit too gross, but I did laugh when Squidward asked what did SpongeBob do to his house, and he just pointed out the house was on top of the trash house replica. The ticket gag had one or two times that was funny, but I think it might been used too much. For the Gary episode, the opportunistic greed of the crab owner and how SpongeBob just accepted 5 extra hours of work the next day, even though he seemed he'd been glad to do them then and there. The other one was that scene when he gets into the Kitchen and gets grabbed by the monster, and when he's about to talk SpongeBob's mouth gets stuffed with the beast seeming like it wanted him to shut up already. I'm guessing most of the other absurdities from the show are things that have been built up through the show and go over my head. Its ok, I could watch it once, I don't think I'll ever have a need to rewatch it, like say a classic Simpsons episode.

Okay here are some more: To Love a Patty (Season 5) The Splinter (Season 6) Pet or Pests (Season 6) One Coarse Meal (Season 7) :^)
Cameron Jackson
>Season 5 Episode 7 That is quite the coincidence, flipped numbers from the previous one. The episode started interesting with how he prepared the six burgers, I liked how he dealt their ingredients like cards, and I liked how he had to rescue his waifu-burger. They started showing the realistic view of the patty and I knew they were going to eventually show it moldy and disgusting before it fell down the waterfall and started to sag and get soggy. They really pushed that disgust with the look of it, almost making me sick, but I was not expecting SpongeBob to actually eat it.
I liked it more than the trash episode.
Charles Murphy
Since you're getting memed on to watch what are often considered the worst episodes, here are some that are generally considered the best (these are just three fro each season that came to my mind and not really exhaustive) Rock Bottom, SB-129, and Pizza Delivery from Season 1 Dying for Pie, Graveyard Shift, and Band Geeks from Season 2 Wet Painters, Krusty Krab Training Video, and Chocolate with Nuts from Season 3

>YWN be young and see the real Spongebob Movie in theaters again Sad

Adding on to this Sold! (Season 9) Mimic Madness (Season 10)

>Season 6 Episode 5 The Splinter
It started out nice with the kitchen shenanigans, for a second with all those sword I thought SpongeBob was just going to be splintered in two and be like an episode about having to get two batshit crazy SpongeBobs together, but its an actual wood splinter in the thumb instead. I liked the part he was up in the ceiling and for a second takes out the spatula to clear his brow of sweat and then jams it back to keep pulling at it, but when that painful splinter going in scene happened, it was all downhill from there. I think the bantz Squidward had with him was a bit too long played, I think it was enough when he flushed his stuff down the toilet. This episode makes me feel more sick than the previous one, are the two other ones just going to be disgusting body mangling or full of trash and pus? Because I dont think I can handle another one of these.
Nathan Green
Postmovie wise, Squidward In Clarinetland is one of the best eps, Has a similar vibe to Sb129 but more ominous.
SpongeHenge is another good one that gives you fresh story
Easton Gomez
Pet or Pests is a different kind of gross, One Coarse Meal is disturbing
Bentley Martinez
>One Coarse Meal is disturbing no it's not, it's just a lazy episode with some unfortunate implications literally no one ever criticized it for "le ebil suicide themes" until a certain e-celeb had a meltdown about it.
Lucas Baker
S4 is clearly different from the previous ones, it can be seen in the character design, the overuse of the Krusty Krab, the personality of the characters, etc.
Carson Mitchell
Ok I got around the last two. I dunno about it being as disgusting as the other three, the Pets or Pests were barfing everywhere sure, and the artists seemed to want to make it a point their barf cover everyone's face and go straight into the character's eyes, but overall it was a tad bit on the boring part. The One Coarse Meal was just bizarre with the constant hammering at each other's fears. I kind of wish it would been flipped around on SpongeBob at the end where his fears were used on him. I think that last fight of the show was also too quickly resolved with Planktom running away like 30 seconds into his plan. They were not as nasty as the previous, just meh overall. I didn't laugh at much in the last one.

Seasons 1-3 are GOAT, and the first movie is KINO. (Haven't seen any of the other movies, yet)
Jordan Hill
Try Choir Boys The Card Fungus Among Us Have fun
Noah Johnson
First 2 of are Season 6, Fungus is Season 5 Also watch Demolition Doofus and Are You Happy Now? from Season 8
Jordan Sullivan
I personally liked the second movie, I would say about half of it is 2D animated, and the CGI animation is well done. It wasn’t very memorable, but I do remember enjoying it.
Christopher Murphy
Don't forget Pet Sitter Pat, Face Freeze and Smooth Jazz at Bikini Bottom from Season 8
Sebastian James
Never saw spongebob except for bits and pieces. A bit too old for it when it first aired, also didn't have cable. I like watching animated movies, though, so I watched the first two movies.
They were fun. The actual animated segments were neat. Could take or leave the cg bits, but the voice action was good.
After watching the films, I don't have a desire to watch the show. Its tone is too light and joyful for my depressive grimdark frownyface adult tastes, but I admire it from an animation perspective. Spongebob is the modern(ish) looney tunes, I think.
