I try not to think about it.
Wish they did all the continents. My autism won't let me settle for just 2.

I liked them. One and two were pretty funny and cute but three wasn't my cup of tea. It's still easily the weakest of the Dreamworks series and trilogies cause those others had a lot more time, effort, and heart put into them.
AFRO
CIRCUS
3 was the only geniunely good one imo, and that's probably only because Noah Baumbach wrote the script
Unpopular opinion : Shark Tale was better than Madagascar 1. Even back then, i thought that was the case.
Fuck you
At least Shark Tale had an actual plot, romance, character development, villain and a proper ending. Madagascar 1 is just a bunch of slapstick, toilet humor and pop culture references in search of a plot.
Stop trying to make Shark Tale a thing, it's reviled for a reason.
2>3>1
Also, Gloria's ass.
Imagine modeling and animating this. Every bounce and jiggle.
>oh no my mainstream big studio animation production does not follow the most typical by-the-book animated movie formula!! Stop the presses!
You're part of the problem.
Also Madagascar 1 is the only good one. Unique style and animation for 3d, simple story with fun characters. Doesn't pretend to be something its not.
everything about Madagascar is based except for the main 4
I sincerely hope you're excluding Gloria.
I dunno, but was the Penguins show good?
yeah.
and AHKJ was even better.
Yes
bulshit
3 > 1=2
Having rewatched all of them recently I might as well just post some thoughts here
Overall
>The whole thing is far better than it gets credit for. Definitely on the better end of Dreamworks even if it's not as good as Kung Fu Panda or HTTYD (but really, few animated films are).
>I like the main characters a lot more than I expected to, particularly Alex and Marty. Alex has a surprisingly strong characterization on all three movies. I like Marty a lot but he really doesn't get much to do on the third film.
>Gloria is great in the first film, not so much in the following ones but still good.
>Melman is the weak link. I still like him a lot.
>Unlike the spin-offs, the movies seem to really know just how much to feature King Julien. He never gets too annoying or too overexposed and he's always doing something different in each film.
>The penguins are the show stealers and rightfully so but I like them better on the show where they have distinct personalities. In the movies it's just Skipper doing the talking. And Skipper can carry it fine, but again, I like all the others too.
>The plot of these films always comes down to just problems that the characters have to solve, which is not a bad approach to writing but I think is part of why these movies don't hold up as well writing-wise compared to Dreamworks's other acclaimed trilogies.

>I legitimately think Alex's arc in the first film is a really, really good example of how to write a werewolf story, and the image of him carving the bars of his own cell is the kind of thing people would declare iconic if attached to a more prestigious film.
>Gloria really holds the entire team together time and time again, being a great example of a character both strong and caring. She's like the one team member who can keep her shit together and it's sad that she seems to lose this role in the sequels as they pair her up with Melman to make Melman more interesting.
>I think what makes the story in this really work is how much the main 4's cluelessness about the wild features into what happens to them, especially Alex. Alex doesn't even know where meat comes from prior to it (he points at a beef in the zoo and says that's something nature doesn't have), and before he knows it, he's trying to eat his friends over something he has no idea how to control, and the whole "Wonderful World" montage really showcases how hard this affects all of them. I think it's an interesting perspective to put on a anthropomorphic animal story.
2
>It's the weakest, but it's not a bad movie. I'd argue it's probably the funniest of the three.
>The sequence where the plane falls alone is worth watching it and it's a shame that the movie never keeps up this level of comedy.
>Melman being the village healer is by far the most interesting thing they did with this character and it really doesn't amount to anything
>King Julien is a complete bastard in this and it's great. It really helps to make him stand out.
>Alex's story is a little cliche but I like it. It does a great job at making him more likeable and grounded compared to the first film.
>There's really not much else to say but again, I like this film. It's a good film
imagine the taste
This line has legit stuck with me for years, it just pops into my head on occasion and it makes me fucking uncomfortable
3
>The most overrated but rightfully so. It's the best ending this trilogy could ask for.
>Captain DuBois is one of the most underrated animation villains ever. She's funny, she's intimidating, she's not immune to slapstick or humiliation despite her gender, she can be genuinely disturbing and still a massive threat nonetheless. If this character was in a pre-2010s Disney film she'd be viewed under the same reverential awe that people view characters like Ursula, Hades and Jafar.
>The one thing that really bites me in the ass regarding this movie is the scene where the circus crew gets mad over the zoo crew lying to them, even though they would have let the zoo crew die had they not done so and the zoo crew is the only reason they are still working right now.
>The circus crew on the whole isn't really as sympathetic as the movie wants us to think. But they are still ok.
>I like Vitale and his dynamic with Alex makes a great complement to Alex's own arcs in the first and second movies.
>I like Stefano a lot. He's just adorable and I like his dynamic with Marty a lot. I wish he got featured more.
>Gia is ok.
>This movie singlehandedly justifies Katy Perry's singing career with a single scene.
>Afro Circus is obnoxious but it really isn't everywhere in the movie. It sucks that it tarnished a lot of people's view on it.
One other thing I'd like to point out is that I watched these movies in my home language, in the Portuguese dub. And when I tried watching them in the original, the scenes were a lot less funny and the characters a lot less engaging (maybe it's the celebrity voices).
Maybe it's just me but even comparing the two side by side shows the difference

>I can’t set foot in Denmark.
>”Why’s that Skipper?”
>That’s private Private! Between me and the Danes
DuBois is amazing. Combined with her music, she was the high point of the movie for me.
>If this character was in a pre-2010s Disney film she'd be viewed under the same reverential awe that people view characters like Ursula, Hades and Jafar.
I wonder if this is true for all of Madagascar.
Like maybe people would like it better on non-meme merits if it hadn't been a Dreamworks film
>There is a baby spinoff of Madagascar
I like'm big
Gloria's belly
is this big enough for ya
There's a what
