Why is Dreamworks obsessed with making brand extensions of almost everything they do ? Can't they have a little more integrity ?

because their new movies are failures

How long until we go back from 'babies/kids' spinoff to 'how do you do fellow kids?' spin offs?

Aww, they are adorable!!

Money

That's what shit like TTG, PPG 2016, and TCR are meant to embody.

Say what you will about Antz, Shark Tale and Bee Movie, but i'm glad that they didn't get whored out with sequels, Netflix shows and holiday specials like most of their other stuff. Same goes for Megamind

just being business-savvy. gotta make money out of whatever assets you have

Because they're owned by Illumination now, so integrity is out the window.

They've been like that since 2005. Pixar also makes plenty of brand extensions, but they only started to do so after Disney bought them. Also, Pixar doesn't make Netflix shows and holiday specials, only the ocassional sequel and short film

I can't tell what's dumb. You or this post.

They were like that far before being owned by them. I'd say 2005 was the point where they started being like that, having Madagascar end on an obvious sequel hook and then announce yet another Shrek film

MEGAMIND WILL GET A SINGLE SPIN-OFF SOMEDAY GODDAMMIT

THAT SPIRIT SHIT GOT EIGHT FUCKING SEASONS

Making new properties requires talent, money, time and risk-taking. Rebooting involves simply holding onto an IP and reheating its decaying carcass every so often.

I doubt it. It wasn't a box office success, so they forgot about it. The director clearly has no intention of doing so, since he still works at the company and went on to direct stuff like Boss Baby

>still no sign of penguins, lemurs or any of the spin-off characters
why even live

It did get one short film.

Reminder that Dreamworks made the greatest gangster film ever back in their prime youtube.com/watch?v=_g-0fKnD56w

I don't oppose spin-offs. Penguins and King Julien were actually pretty fun. I'm more annoyed at the babyfication of many franchises now.

10 years too late. I only care if they did another series of the side characters.

People always underestimated the success of Muppet Babies.

I guess studios are retreating to fortify the viewer groups still loyal to them. And we aren't one.

that was like 35 years ago, boomer

they're doing the babyfying nonsense
