nice
One of my hopes for this series is that Dave at the minimum will at least try to be a decent father for Satina. It will not be fun if he ends up being a Homer or Peter.
Hannah and the guys she works with have stated repeatedly that they hate the dumb dad trope and want the whole show to be about Dave being he best father he can be
April Fools?
Nah its coming out today at 3pm EST
Nope. 100% real.
Countdown is starting at 2pm est. Patreon early premiere is happening at 2:30pm. Public premiere is happening at 3pm.
Nice, today's turning out to be great
I'm in.
Hannah, I know you're reading this; Satina is the only one of the new batch of webtoons that has the board loyalty "advantage". We're rooting for you, Yas Forumsmmrade.
Daily reminder
She popped up semi-recently too with an exclusive preview.
I love the stylized title card
She's been by a few times. Does anyone have a cap of the autist that requested Hannah draw degenerate shit about Satina and made the thread explode?
>When Hannah's channel takes an extra half second to load
YESSSS
that is 100 percent psychicpebbles
Yah it has his name in the credits lol
oh just heard the "huh?" and knew it was him. pretty cool of him to appear in this, didn't know he was a fan
Some definite awkwardness in the pacing and audio mixing but the animation and direction is way above par for something like this in terms of consistency and being fluid without stepping into over-animation. The design and backgrounds are easily better than most TV stuff.
There’s some funny ideas but unfortunately because of the aforementioned pacing issues the jokes don’t really land. Still a neat little thing overall and a really good piece for these folks to have in their portfolio before even graduating college
Fuck yeah
it felt super reminiscent of older CN and nick shows where the jokes don't really hit you over the head. like it takes an extra minute for you to process them and then you crack a smile
a few lines made me chuckle out loud and the animation was very, very nice. very consistent and not too overdone
>a really good piece for these folks to have in their portfolio before even graduating college
Basically my feelings; as a normal cartoon episode, it’s really promising but lacks polish in some areas. For a student short, it’s easily above average. But for being literally the second narrative animation Hannah’s ever made in her entire life it’s pretty fucking impressive
i like this part
I'd say that a few of the jokes landed (for me at least), but that most of them only didn't work because of the pacing, not the writing. I really hate using the term, but if felt soulful , you could tell the creators really cared about making it. Sometimes that quality can help overlook some roughness, I find.
THIS. it had a lot of heart and thats rare for indie cartoons, especially ones meant for "older" audiences. They managed to be funny, wholesome, and just a little edgy all at once. it made me heart feel warm n fuzzy. i do wish lucia had been in it more... that beastial huff in the beginning tho
Nice. Already better than Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss.
Part of why it feels like such a rare beast is because there’s a huge gap in the US market concerning shows that are actually made for teenagers. “Too edgy for CN, not edgy enough for Adult Swim, too cartoony/weird for Fox” is essentially a completely unserved market
Loved it, god i hope we get more someday. the audio felts kinda weird sometimes but that's it.
the last show i can kind of think of that served that purpose is like... Dan Vs? that shit was way too adult to be on the Hub but too mild for AS.
It remindedme of some designs in Dan Vs, maybe Hannah has seen it?
What cartoons do animators watch?
I absolutely agree: there is a ton of love put into this project and it shows in every frame. From the exaggerated, goofy facial expressions to the gags painted into the backgrounds, it definitely felt like early-mid 90's Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. A desire to use the medium for showcasing humor in ways you simply can't through live action.
While there are certainly some pacing issues with the jokes, it totally has an excellent foundation. I've mentioned before that writing takes a ton of practice and this short is already leaps and bounds stronger than the previous (amazing considering Hannah's relatively young presence in the field). It will easily continue growing from here.
One moment that particularly stood out to me in showing the team's dedication was Satina's floor reflection in the server room. It's something small, but noticeable in the team taking that extra step in polishing a product.
HANNAH IS AMAZING AND I WISH HER THE BEST OF LUCK!
Hi guys! my boys have informed me there are several threads about satina on here so i'm just popping in to say hi and thank you for watching my cartoon! we all worked very hard on it and are glad it's getting a positive reception! more good stuff is coming soon :)
