Uncrippling this dumb bitch was when Batman jumped the shark.
Uncrippling this dumb bitch was when Batman jumped the shark
Forever stories are shit, comics would be infinitely better if they canonically ended and switched universes every decade
New 52 in general ruined DC forever.
More than randomly bringing Jason Todd back?
Why always a negro? Why never an asian guy? Or a latino? Or.... a white guy?
Dick wasn't White?
More like crippling her was jumping the shark undoing it was back flipping over the shark tank
she was never supposed to be crippled.
Killing Joke was never supposed to be canon.
Too many people jerk off over Alan Moore's work
what would the equivalent of throwing in a second shark in the tank be
three jokers?
Asian guys are always getting emasculated. Bruce Lee got them some smidgen of respect, but when your most notable physical trait is shortness, women aren't going to take much notice. It's not going to be a Latino because machismo is "problematic", and the woke crowd is currently trying to alter the Latino language and culture to "fix" them. So it's a black guy because they're fetishized while still seen as "pets" by feminists and leftys.
Luke Fox also comes from money and the upper-class; he's straight up part of the private school and trust fund crowd.
>Asian guys are always getting emasculated.
By White people. But they let it happen so fuck them
Well, I mean, Batman was also crippled and healed, wasn't he?
But the real problem is I agree, all stories should end, it would give so much more weight to a character's supposed death, or being injured or having a family. Just make sure to have a side character towards the end being trained so we don't all say "who?" when the replacement arrives; for example one of the robins could have permanently become the batman. It would make race or gender switches less controversial, since the character "earned" their place, and seem like not a permanent thing, since it could just as easily change back.
Imagine how much oomph jason todd's death would have had, if we actually expected him to become the next batman, and the current batman was on the verge of retirement. Also, wouldn't it make characters who are slow aging or supposedly immortal seem so much more exceptional? you have everyone else changing, but this one hero would be there permanently, and since time is actually flowing, you could more reasonably show the distress it causes to be immortal.
It really was a bad move. Oracle was one of the best female heroines we had, and sent a good message about overcoming a disability. In fact I find the retcon offensive, implying that Babs only had worth dressed like a bat and kicking teeth in when she arguably kicked more ass in the chair
Barbara is the only good batgirl.
However for the new 52 they should have just removed Killing Joke from canon. It's so stupid to chair her and then fix her before shes 25 as part of her backstory. Just make it so that shes never crippled like BTAS.
Steph is the bestest!
They make money for their companies so they will be kept going into eternity. The question becomes when does "ending" them become the right thing by fan-demand?
I highly suspect they brought her back to that state simply to sell the idea of "HOT NERDY GIRL SUPER HERO!" to the masses. When that original OP image came out I railed against it and said pretty much the same thing about it being okay for her to be disabled and how they're just trying to appeal to the cosplay-crowd.
Yas Forums argued with me a lot. Now look where we are. Yas Forums wanting Oracle back. Selfie-girl was fucking stupid can we admit that now? We ask why characters can't progress and move on but this is why selfie-girl, to some executive, sells...something. That's the idea. Cripple girl isn't selling things, but self-cosplay-girl is selling something.
Deep insights stranger, howd u learn to see like that?
I took a Gender Studies class before corona shut the schools down.
>muh stronk female character
>muh cripple representation
>muh lardass fighting crime from behind a computer just like me in my daydreams!
There. I saved you about a 100 posts. You can stop posting now.
I thought the point of the Batfamily was that they were sneaky ninja wannabes, not spider-manning their way through Times Square
Steph is actually pretty sneaky, almost all of her fights are won via some kind of surprise dropkick.
It's "fun" so people treat it with kid gloves.
>trying to alter the Latino language and culture to "fix" them
Is that even possible?
>the latino language
We just call it "Spanish"
Kind of. White people (mostly women) in the US have begun calling latinos/latinas "latinx" (rhymes with "kleenex") because apparently it's offensive to have gendered nouns. God forbid you have a different word for a man and a woman. In general we're not on board with this nonsense but they just keep pushing it. My dad tried submitting an op-ed for a local paper and the editor told him he should refer to himself as "latinx" instead of "latino" because it was more inclusive. Fucking weirdos.
>latinx
But that sounds gay as fuck. Even in the 90's it wouldn't work.
Oracle will always be defined for female fans as the casual disregard of female characters, that they would be victimized in a way male characters never can be.
I can forgive them for uncrippling her. What I cannot forgive is giving her that god-awful, ugly, cheap dollar-store looking ass costume.
>that they would be victimized in a way male characters never can be.
True, you would never see a male superhero in a wheelchair
Yeah
Red Hood is cool
What r u dumb?
>My dad tried submitting an op-ed for a local paper and the editor told him he should refer to himself as "latinx" instead of "latino" because it was more inclusive.
Which is racist as fuck on behalf of the editor, but of course this is ignored as a white woman led campaign of linguistic genocide cannot be wrong.
Crippling her was the best thing to happen to her, she actually got a personality and finally became useful as Oracle
But Chuck has telepathy! All Babs has is fancy wheelchair karate, and 1337 hacking skillz.
Was Charles sexual assaulted when he was paralyzed? No that's right he wasn't. Was Charles paralyzed because the writers couldn't care if he was alive or dead?
>Oracle will always be defined for female fans as the casual disregard of female characters, that they would be victimized in a way male characters never can be.
Which is funny considering how much violence male characters get. Getting limps cut off and crushed all the time and getting killed off constantly and brought back, having all their loved ones killed to show who the new big bad in town is.
>Which is funny considering how much violence male characters get.
Because they're not victimized by the violence. When a male character gets an arm cut off they will put it in a tourniquet and keep fighting.
I'd say Morrison's run in general made a shark jump inevitable. Flying cars, Damien being healed of a broken spine like it was nothing more than an appendectomy, an international "corporation" of Batmen... you can argue that Morrison was ludicrous enough to make it work for a bit, but there was no way it was sustainable without turning into utter shit with things like Oracle being undone because, fuck, if Damien can just get healed in the space of three issues why is she in a chair?
>When a male character gets an arm cut off they will put it in a tourniquet and keep fighting
Or they'll just go down screaming and the fight is over. Like in Star Wars.
Female fans liked Oracle even if they hated The Killing Joke.
When she's a cripple it's best to pair her with Nightwing but when she can walk it's best to keep her single.
