Someone please explain to me why people here hate this comic? I just want to know
Someone please explain to me why people here hate this comic? I just want to know
I don't, it gives the Joker a little of humanity whithout excusing his actions
Babs got fridged pretty hard
too popular
because nobody on Yas Forums reads comics and they are basing their opinions off of the shitty movie
It worked better as an out of universe oneshot
"Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow?" is vastly superior.
It's arguably the best thing that ever happened to her character. The aftermath was Oracle
That's true but there's no way Moore or Bolland knew that. Taking The Killing Joke as it is the critique stands.
>Someone please explain to me why people here hate this comic?
Since when?
I’ve heard it started the trend of comics deconstructing themselves. Is it true?
Moore specifically wrote it as a one off, so he likely thought none of it would become canon.
this
Not really. You could argue MAD had been doing it since the 50s (not as serious obviously). It started the trend of "adult" comics doing that but it wasn't necessarily the first.
That would be Moore's earlier works
Someone should storytime it right now so we can judge or re-judge it ourselves
What the fuck are you talking about
That makes the fridged-ness worse imo. The only plot point Babs serves is to get shot.
It's good comic. Regrettably it's impact on the comic book industry, and DC comics in particular has been overwhelmingly negative.
I want to be clear, I like The Killing Joke mostly but that's a genuine critique I think holds up.
How?
hipsters and victims who watched the movie.
Not that guy, but I think his point would be more accurate if we were talking about TDKR.
Which one, original or recolor?
A lot of people think it's just overhyped. It's the jump on point for a lot of Batman readers.
Some hate it for trying to humanize Joker.
Feminists hate it for what happened to Batgirl.
Anti-Batfans (and Yas Forums has a lot of those) hate it on principle.
What did TDKR do that caused a negative impact?
Original
I don't hate it. It just doesn't deserve its high acclaim.
Recolor
Basically just angry babsgirl fans who were never able to accept her as oracle or see the good that came out of her being oracle feeling empowered and emboldened by Didio giving them what they wanted in the new 52.
Babsgirl fans can be nuts.
It's one of those paradoxes. Good things can come out of and build upon something you don't like.
Yes, this is not a good end for Babs career, but without it being in continuity, Birds of Prey and Cassandra Cain don't exist, and Barbara doesn't become a computer expert. Helena Bertinelli as the Huntress might not exist either, since she was introduced after Babs was removed, which might have prompted her creation as a replacement female Batfamily character. If Birds of Prey doesn't exist, does Black Canary ever get her Canary Cry back since it happened in that series?
Is all this worth risking for a 90's Babsgirl series?
>And so a kingdom was lost, all for the want of a nail.
Original is clearly better
It was too good so everyone tried to copy it, both in tone and the idea of having a "definitive" Batman story instead of focusing on writing good stories.
Any examples?
Contrarianism, popular book gets judged harsher for being popular, Moore hates it, the Batgirl stuff, blamed as one of the points where the industry started to slip into grimdark gimmicktry. I like it personally but those are the best answers you're going to get.
this
it really doesn't do anything spectacular, it just does everything slightly above your average cape comic
>Is all this worth risking for a 90's Babsgirl series?
No but you should judge events and works by what's in them, not just what they caused. Plan 9 from Outer Space doesn't become better because Ed Wood was an entertaining film and The Killing Joke's treatment of Babs doesn't become better because of BoP and Cassandra Cain.
