So, while being stuck in isolation I decided to just rewatch the Avatar on a whim. It's still as great as I remember it. Then I decided to rewatch Korra on a whim and watching it back to back with Last Airbender I just noticed how amazingly anti-Last Airbender some of the choices were. Like, they were so desperate to not repeat re-learning of all elements, but all they do is take Korra's powers away EVERY FUCKING SEASON (in season 1 it was Amon, in second season Waterbender Palpatine took tattoo waifu from her, in third season she was poisoned for cripple tag and in 4th season she was rebounding from that). And every instance of taking her bending away was a perfectly squandered opportunity to set Korra on Avatar journey. Every single one of them is a cocktease with first one being the worst offender. And it was a neat fucking concept because unlike Aang Korra already had mastery of all elements physically but was empty spiritually, whereas Aang had very strong spiritual connection but would prefer to dodge if he had the option. So teaching character who is hard as a rock to be flexible was interesting enough angle that they talked about AND NEVER DID ANYTHING. Like, ok, I get that they didn't want to rehash Last Airbender and go through the entire world again that we've seen a lot of, but, like, they built Republic City, why not give more character to it, why not emphasize how it's biggest city in the world, give every street its own identity where Korra can kind of have micro-avatar journey. Better yet, why not start season 3 with journey to spiritual world NOT END THE SHOW IMPLYING IT.
Instead they literally just showed us her moaning while she's beat up and sweaty, showed us her feet, restrained her in leather, drugged her, chained her, took the use of her feet and then got her dommed by brown dictator that all lead to revelation that she's a lesbian. That's Korra's journey.
God I wish I could have korra's brown ass engulfed around my face
Carson Kelly
A:TLA had professional writers helping out the creators flesh out the universe. Korra didn't and those creators made it a priority to unravel aspects of the mythos they didn't come up with and replace it with their own shit, which was shit.
Dylan Harris
Bryke got so used to sniffing their own farts that they believed they could make a follow-up to Avatar without the staff that helped them write, direct and choreograph the original. Which is why they didn't get back the same team for Korra, which is why the writing, bending and characterization are utter shit.
Then they realized that because of their awful writing everyone hated Korra's character, and to try and save face, turned her into a lesbian to make her likable again.
Friendly reminder that some of their "genius" ideas for Avatar included making Toph a dude who would compete with Aang for Katara's attention, making Azula a dude who was just Zuko but evil. A lot of their shittier ideas were filtered out by a competent production team.
For Korra they wrote everything themselves and got a team of yes-men.
Joseph Miller
Bryke were always butthurt about how the hired writters actually corrected all their shit all the time with the channel approval. remember the Toph they wanted, and how they bitched about girl Toph until she became popular and suddenly they pretented to always like her. Korra was them trying really hard to "btfo" those former writer's work. And it failed miserably.

>Korra is literally another case of George Lucas Syndrome
Tyler Reed
Correct
Oliver Nguyen
Topher and azula males would have sold better to the audience. What we got was trashy meme bullshit for losers.
Jonathan Mitchell
Korra should have been a full cycle after Aang, just for fuckin' starters, if the writers really wanted that much technical progress. Then the tech should have overwhelmingly favored benders, like you need to be a Firebender to properly operate the engines or be an Earthbender to properly drive the cars. Then a bunch of other things should and should not have happened fucking fuck
Nicholas Gutierrez
way to stay on topic

>Then they realized that because of their awful writing everyone hated Korra's character, and to try and save face, turned her into a lesbian to make her likable again.
The scary thing is that it worked for the most part. Prior to the finale people's opinion on the show was that it was mediocre at best. Then the last episode hit and the only thing people could talk about was korrasami and not just the shipping stuff, but discussions, analysis, and basically everything else.
David Butler
If Azula were male, people would stop thinking with their dicks and finally see what a lame villain she is.
Connor Parker
I don't think the technology was the problem. They had Steampunk tanks that would be impossible with our real world tech in Aang's time. so jumping to the 1920's in just under a century sounds plausible to me.
Ian Scott
I think her brown ass is a much more interesting topic. Shame Bolin never got to get up in it
Ryder Gray
> Shame Bolin never got to get up in it
Atleast we can agree on that.
Noah Gray
>Prior to the finale people's opinion on the show was that it was mediocre at best. Yas Forums does not encompass the totality of the fanbase, y'know. (I mean, I agree with you but at least I have self-awareness about it.)
Asher Lee
Why are you using they and them when you know Bryke is a male?
Jonathan Nelson
The only people who hype the character are women. Creepy loser adult women.
Jason Perry
I wasn't even on Yas Forums let alone Yas Forums when the show was ending that's my experience from other sites.
Angel Torres

>Topher and azula males would have sold better to the audience. >What we got was trashy meme bullshit for losers. this cannot be serious.
why are all the worst avatar opinions located in Whorra threads?
Andrew Hall
Bryke= Bryan and Mike. 2 dudes.
Parker King
they didnt want korra to leave republic city, less kind of animated location to think of.
bryke had ALL the creative control over korra so they unmade all they didnt like the first time (IE: what nickelodeon told them).
aaron something was a big part of what made avatar good. dragon prince without the sjw commitee feel just like avatar.
Joseph Reed

Phased like that makes me realize should have seen the lesbo ending coming a mile away. Show was just an excuse for muscle girl fetish domination the entire time.
>they didnt want korra to leave republic city, less kind of animated location to think of. It is kind of ironic they wanted to nail the plot to Not-New York considering that proto-Avatar's original idea was all about Aang going on crazy adventures around the globe, with the prototype ending being him flying towards the horizon in search for more. I think that is telling of Bryke wanting Korra to be a story that would be considered more mature, with more emphasis on characters' interpersonal relationships, society and politics. Which funnily enough ends up being more childish and dumbed down than the group of kids who go on an adventure to save the world from evil dictator man.[/spolier]
Bryke got a bad case of George Lucas' disease. Lost the lead writer from the original show too, he ended up going to make an Avatar ripoff for Netflix.
>Korra should have been a full cycle after Aang, just for fuckin' starters, if the writers really wanted that much technical progress. The Fire Nation is well into the industrial revolution by the time of Last Airbender though, remember the Freudian Nightmare Machine they use to break the walls of Ba Sing Se? Considering that Korra is supposed to be about 50-60 years later, it's not crazy that they're working with 1920s tech. Especially when you've got metalbenders and firebenders giving you a cheat code when it comes to producing and controlling machines.
Dylan Foster
Same, showed the series to my girlfriend but absolutely refused to show Korra. I showed her some clips of the particular stupid shit and that was all the convincing it took.
I pray that they'll one day just retcon Korra out of fucking existence and give an actual good sequel
Ryan Bennett
the tumblrinas are the worst offenders
Austin Lee
>conniving >intelligent >covers her ass Shes great, the only problem is that her mental breakdown at the end should have been more fleshed out/slower.
Camden Moore
>they literally just showed us her moaning while she's beat up and sweaty, showed us her feet, restrained her in leather, drugged her, chained her, took the use of her feet and then got her dommed by brown dictator that all lead to revelation that she's a lesbian The only bad thing you've listed in that sentence was Korra being lesbian.
Jonathan Mitchell
there was no time for that, we needed to see aang and katara do stupid boring shit for 12 episodes straight.
Gabriel Bell
>Did creators of Korra hate Avatar? Probably? They were given an impossible task of recreating the so-called "magic" of an overrated show that was never that good to begin with. the only possible way they could have appeased avaretards is by just frame by frame re-releasing the first show. and these idiots would still complain and say its not as good as ATLA.
