why does it look like a tv show?

I'd blame the fact its digital photos. If these were production stills shot on a colour negative/positive, you'd probably get a different feel.

Are there any bookfags here who can vouch for Dune? Is it worth reading or nah?

The first book is boring. I personally like Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. The fourth book, God Emperor of Dune is the popular favorite.

I really enjoyed them, at least the books by the original author.

I read it years ago, and I think just the other day I figured out part of why it didn't quite click with me: I don't understand the themes of the book. I know what it's "about" in the sense of the plot, and the characters' motivations and actions, but I don't know what it's "about" in the sense of what the story is trying to say. There's a lot of stuff about diverging possible futures, alien ecology and future technology, multi-generational eugenics projects and political schemes, but in the end, I can't quite grasp what position the story is taking on all of it. I asked my dad, who also read it a long time ago, and he struggled to describe what the core ideas of the story were too.

The fuck is this shit
Based and tears of sadness from those who cant handle it fuel me

I don't know whether to find your request retarded or adorable.

...Probably a little bit of both.

Storytime the 80s movie comic adaptation lol

Now that's just mean.

I think (actually this might be pretty much taken from Herbert himself) it's sort of an deconstruction or inversion of the hero's journey. Paul follows all the trappings of the chosen one and leads a rebellion, becoming the new (essentially) emperor, etc. But all that leads to is more war and bloodshed committed in his name, and he becomes just another figurhead for his people, unable to actually lead them.

The story of Paul is a warning against following heroes. But there are other things as well I think, like different cultures/societies, nomadic life vs civilization, fate, what have you. I remember it more as exploring different ideas than firmly having a set theme desu.

Why is the Baron still human when everyone else is an animal?

>I remember it more as exploring different ideas than firmly having a set theme desu.
I think you're right, because there's a whole sequence where the scientist is wandering the desert, and has basically an epiphany about how the sandworms and the sandtrout and the spice interact in an ecosystem, and it has only tangential relationship to a few events that happen later in Paul's story, it seems more like Herbert wanted an opportunity to explore strange alien life life cycles and predator-prey relationships. I just looked up the Wikipedia article, and the themes and influences section has 6 full entries.

I think this is why it's hard piece of imaginative fiction to adapt to film. Something like Star Wars is about like three things that are all interrelated in their alignment of the creator's conception of "Good" (harmony with other life, inner peace, free societies) vs "evil" (anger hatred and fear, seeking personal gratification, oppressive power structures). LotR is similar, Appreciation for nature, faith in the goodness of the world, fellowship and pressing on through hope vs. trying to control or destroy nature and build for yourself, rebellion against the cosmic order, oppressive power structures and undermining your enemies with despair and sowing mistrust. Dune sort of has a lot of things going on that aren't aligned in any sort of dichotomy, they're just elements of this future universe interacting. Any adaptation is going to have to make some sacrifices to make that work in 2 hours of screentime.

You can use ReadComicOnline to get it?

Might as well ask here, anyone got a mega of the book series?

it is a parable about the follies of the ubermensch, the value of human life, and the atrocities caused by the corporatization of mankind.

Dune messiah is very much underrated

It had art by Bill Sienkiewicz, honestly you could do worse
