>shitting on eurocomics
>deliberately choosing the worst examples around instead of the masterworks
You crossed the line, Groth.
Connor Anderson
He is saying that European Comics aren't good. Its just aping American Comics or drawing for Americans.
John James
This page brings up something I never see addressed. American Comics used to have fast pacing with TV and Movies moving at a slow pace
90s is when Comics went to shit
Parker Watson
>"The level of mediocrity in European comics is considerably higher than ours"
>he wrote in 1985
Thia would have been ingorant in any era, but especially then.
Henry White
Euro Trash don't know how to make comics. He's talking about the technical direction and fast pace delivery.

At last he draws a parallel that eurocomics have tradh like american comics.
Because this is the truth.
Euro comics have the same amount of trash like american comics or manga. But you mostly dont see it if it is shipped overseas or quickly forgotten.
Blake Adams
Marvel Comics used to have bright colors but a break neck pace. Kirby could not keep up because Stan was writing stories every day and doing 20 page-60page scripts without smoking or taking drugs like Rod Sterling or Roddenberry. His scripts were that good!
DC had moderate speed or slow for dramatic effective.
Europeans don't know how to write comic books because they keep making it drama.
Claremont and Bryne were the exception
Hunter Gonzalez
Why the sudden influx of groth's garbage articles? Is it you rage you lose type of thread?
Andrew Turner
Manga has less trash than American and Euro comics.
Noah Garcia
>His scripts were that good!
Kirby constantly made changes to Lee's scripts because he had no talent for continuity and forgot established details (like character's names) constantly.
Nicholas Sullivan
No. Gary Groth was Editor in Chief for Fanzines and comics, the kind of guy you need.
He is merely stating that comics and manga are terrible and have been that way since the 80s and 90s.
Ethan Taylor
So is this guy like a comedian or something? Are these supposed to be funny? They're obviously too stupid to be written in earnest.
Adam Jackson
Kirby is too retarded to understand that it would take 12-13 issues to do something.
DC had no problem with their big stories because the writers bounced ideas off each other. It's only Marvel were such autisitc that they didn't know what to do
Jaxon Hughes
It really makes you think when you look at the stories Kirby wrote on his own.
Ryan Ward
I'm not claiming Kirby was a good writer himself (the Fourth World looks amazing but it's a clusterfuck), but that beyond being a great ideas guy Lee wasn't a good writer either.
Henry Green
I like this user who’s just dumping random Comics Journal articles
Dominic Long
Groth is such a hack
Jason Miller
What? Lee literally didn't do the plots have you never heard of the Marvel (aka make it easy for Stan) method?

Yeah I wonder why we cant go back to that.

>stan Lee's scripts
Lel, you mean "I want him to fight the bad guy on a tower"
And then kirby draws 20npages and stan Lee just writes dialog to match the panels?
Because that's how they worked numb nuts
Charles Sanders
I love seeing criticisms of comics, especially older stuff. Nowadays you either get journalists playing nice so they keep getting exclusive material from developers or you get tinfoil autists turning everything into clickbait outrage.
