To be fair, the simpsons was a huge shock in the 90s along with other cartoons like beavis & butthead and south park. The idea of adult cartoons is still a relatively new thing and there are countries that still firmly believe that animation is inherently for children. We have a long way to go before really good adult oriented animation gets made.
