That wasn't the same Thanos. The Thanos in Infinity War went on an emotional journey and matured, sacrificing his daughter to achieve his goal was the penultimate climax to his character arc. Compare that to Tony Stark who didn't want to sacrifice his daughter, so now the earth has an even worse overpopulation issue then it did before the snap. Not to mention all the people whose lives are forever ruined because they were brought back into a world that has moved on, with families and homes now lost to them.
As for Endgame Thanos, he was wasn't even a character. Just a final boss from a different timeline with no development, a complete disgrace. The only thing Infinity War Thanos did wrong was not use the stones to set the number of people post snap as the limit, other then that he did nothing wrong. Why do people think Endgame Thanos and Infinity War Thanos are the same character? They clearly show that's not the case. It's like studying for your final exam and acing it over finding out you pass it in the future with no context on to how. The script for Endgame is garbage.

Yes he did. He could have used the stones to reduce the reproduction rate of the universe so the problem would correct itself without him having to commit the greatest mass murder ever.
Thanos was not a good person who did something bad, he was a villain who found a good cause to justify his hatred and evil.
But you were correct: he did undergo a character change and growth, culminating in him rejecting the power and accepting death.
That is what made Endgame Thanos a good villain: he has seen the good outcome of his actions, but he rejects it. He is the bad choice, and therefore he is the ultimate villain.
