The show has always been bad, the design terrible, the writing a mess, the animation sporadic in quality. Truth is we live in a age with less cartoons that appeal to man children, or more accurately back in the 90’s and early 2000’s more effort and talent was in animation compared to know so at least if some faggot in his 30’s was watching and jacking it to Kim possible you’d at least mildly understand, but now it’s just shit. The writing was decent, up until the prison break. That was when Rebecca realised the studio had given her free reign over putting her pet politics in so those became the focus rather than the dark undertones.
Heck when he went to homeworld, the focus wasn't on "please stop killing entire planets", it was on "omg why won't you let us merge into unholy abominations?!?"

Actually they just healed his corrupted form with the hug and love.
He literally said he was going to the therapist.
Anyway, hugs like those are a reak a way to deal with people that are experincing trauma and confusion.
You need to block them so they can't hurt for a brief moment others and themselves.
Then you have to calm them down and resolve their problems after they're healthy again

Steven should've been knocked the fuck out, considering White Diamond said it wasn't Steven anymore. That means he would've been in no state of mind to comprehend anything they did do by hugging and speaking words to him. Steven should've been defeated by a fusion of everyone and then while unconscious, he converses with his gem half (Pink Steven) or his mother in his subconscious mind and finally comes to the realization that he needs help and needs to make a change. Then he wakes up and breaks down crying. That would've been more satisfying of a conclusion to his arc.
