Had it been made in the 90s, it would have had at least 60 episodes thus plenty of time to developp misused characters.
And the Mouse would have never allowed Star to commit wanton genocide, hence the writers would have no choice but to actually write a proper ending.
There also wouldn't have been any homosexuals, thus that whole thing with Jackie would be inexistant and she'd remain pure.
It was all a case of bad luck, it didn't come out at the right time.

No, it was a case of the show runner having no back up plan and winging it for half its run combined with excessive shipper pandering too pad out the episode order. The jackie thing is literally less than a footnote on why the show went too shit.
