She always has been. Her current run has Kamala morphing her hands into blades and crushing weapons (a step up from just giant fists) and outright "Hulking Out" in anger. And her powers work by transferring mass between other Kamalas in other timelines and universes, essentially giving her infinite shapeshifting and growth range.

I think the current explanation as to why she doesn't go full Plastic Man is a "mental block".

Exiles was one of my favorite Marvel series, but my lord, I couldn't read this book. Blink was just drawn so ugly, and everything was so obnoxiously quirky, I didn't even bother to pick up issues beyond the first one.
