I'd like to take a minute to appreciate Lois Lane. Determined, tough as nails, no nonsense, and sexy as hell. I was reading Superman Adventures (based off the STAS/DCAU continuity) written by McCloud and I forgot just how much fun she is. When you think about it, Lois worked so well that several other characters tried, and failed, to imitate her. Such examples include Vicki Vale, Iris West, and in particular cases (usually adaptations) Mary Jane Watson.
Do you like Lois Lane? What are some lessons we can learn from the character when creating/writing other female characters and protagonists?
She stopped being a good character when she literally and purposely abandoned her son with a madman and allowed him to be kidnapped and tortured for years.
Not to mention writing about the mental health of others without their consent.
Worst Mom and Worst Wife.
Thanks DC.
Anthony Lee
One shitty run can't instantly ruin a character with years and and years of history, Bendis' bullshit doesn't erase the past.
Grayson Miller
Still the best journalist.
Chase Howard
Also include King there, HiC was very stupid
Jordan Davis
those purple eyes look stupid.
Oliver Reed
>The character is now bad and always was because Bendis wrote her like shit Dumbass. Yeah Bendis is a shit writer, and I think what he's done is bullshit, but I'm gone going to completely write her off. If I wanted to bitch about Bendis all thread, I would have started off like that. I was hoping to actually talk about things we like about Lois and ignore his autism
I actually think Eradicator Lois would make a great reoccurring Superman villain >Has traveled the multiverse >Consumes Supermen that have lost their Lois kind of like Eradicator kept the souls of Krypton "safe" >Has killed countless villains to keep other Clark and Lois's safe, and basically an autistic overprotective shipper >Finally runs into our Clark >Superman is left in this awkward situation where he keeps saving villains from Eradicator Lois, trying to talk sense into this Lois, attempt to free the trapped Supermen, and all the while conflicted about punching a woman that looks exactly like his wife. >Eradicator Lois still thinks she's the hero in all of this doing the right thing
Only thing missing from the design is the iconic Eradicator shades
I will never get tired of this art/joke. Fucking love it. How the hell is this NOT an elseworld's idea?
Ryan Garcia
She was awful in the New 52 as well. She hasn't been a decent character in decades.
Josiah Thomas
>She hasn't been a decent character in decades. She was fine in Tomasi's Superman, what are you talking about?
Cameron Peterson
Nu52 lois was killed off so you're not even talking about the same character.
Colton Young
Which Lantern Corps would Lois be in? What trait does she exemplify most?
Jaxon Phillips
Either green or violet.
Julian Turner
I'm going to say green because she's too hard headed to quit just like Hal
Isaac Phillips
I like the purple eyes
David Gomez
The only reason she isn't one right now is because the guardians are rightfully scared of her.
Noah Hill
That shit pissed me off. Batman's already a billionaire playboy and the most popular superhero ever. Why the fuck did the writers think he should cuck Clark on top of that?
Jaxson Myers
Clark wasn't dating her at the time, which they eventually did end up together right?
Luke Rodriguez
irrelevant
James Taylor
Orange.
Levi Gonzalez
God damn she's so sexy here, I want her to smother my face with her fatass.
Bruce Timm had some weird Batman cuck fetish going on. Though Bruce fucking Lois has nothing on the whole Barbara shit where Bruce cucked his own adopted son.
Austin Green
Lois Lane has always been one of my favorite characters in cape comics. I can't get laid for shit but I've always had a thing for fiery women who stand up for what they believe in, have no problem putting people in their place, and have a lot of moxie.
>What are some lessons we can learn from the character when creating/writing other female characters and protagonists? She's a genuinely strong female character who isn't forced and we as the audience aren't constantly shoved down our throats how strong and amazing she is, rather she's generally shown how competent and loving towards her family she is in a natural manner.
Chase Thompson
I get the feeling Dini and McDuffie had a deal going where they would occasionally add one of Timm's fetishes in return he keep drawing for their shows
Tyler Hernandez
That's pretty bad but in hindsight Lois got off the hook of getting the full Bendis treatment. If Bendis went full Bendis, he'd have her fall in love and cheat on Clark with some black OC character that he tries to shoehorn into the plot.
Noah Russell
Not like it was serious for her and he was gathering intel. It was more serious for Bruce and does add to the narrative because we know where life took him. No chick really wanted Bruce Wayne AND Batman as a package deal, not even Barbara. Well Diana did, but oh well.
Ayden Diaz
Mary Jane Watson as a plucky reporter is fucking terrible (lookin at you, PS4 Spidey)
Jackson James
Loved Dceu Lois.
Easily the most subtle, least hysterical or overly emotional, least bitchy or unlikable Lois we have ever gotten in live action.
OP here, I agree. I only mentioned her, and specified as such, because it was a thing in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon and the PS4 game where they were obviously trying to channel Lois, but failed. Vicki Vale and Iris West are pale imitations in the same canon too. I get why the reporter love interest thing is such a common trope, because its a profession that enables said character to get near the action, but I wish writers would do more female firefighters or medics. Eh, she still needed a tad more bitchy, and I wasn't wild about the casting either. She didn't really have much chemistry either with Clark bu that may be a script issue. That's not a bad choice. Is it weird that I want to give Mila Kunis a shot or is she too old?
Ayden Gutierrez
>he'd have her fall in love and cheat on Clark with some black OC character that he tries to shoehorn into the plot. Bendis isn't a good writer but this interracial cuck shit is entirely an invention of Yas Forums's own imagination.
Jonathan Harris
It's not so much cucking as it is Bendis clearly having an obvious black fetish. I can't remember who, but I do know that other writers have called him out on this. Like "The Brown Bomber" thing, or that one interview saying Bendis has a crush on Luke Cage
Grayson Clark
DCAU is easily my favorite Lois. Thinking about it no comics come to mind where she was a real standout character for me.
I remember in one of the animated movies they made her blonde and it bugged the shit out of me. I like blondes fine but that felt like a weird change.
Matthew Walker
>Bendis clearly having an obvious black fetish. That's bullshit though, just because he likes luke cage?
Ryder Evans
I fucking love Amy Adams but she fucking sucked shit as Lois. Wasn't nearly as spunky, fiery, or sarcastic enough.
It's weird, I can think of a few people who I think would've played an excellent Lois Lane years ago but I can't think of anyone right now.
Oliver Wright
>Is it weird that I want to give Mila Kunis a shot or is she too old? Too old and she was apparently piss poor in Jupiter Ascending.
Ian Richardson
And the fact that he keeps making black super special characters >Miles >Riri >Red Mist Its become a bingo game
Michael Sullivan
For a notably older Clark & Lois I would go with... > Jason Issacs > Lynn Collins
Collins should also play Wonder Woman in the Titans tv show universe.
Henry Kelly
>more female firefighters or medics. Funny you say that. In the Beyond timeline of the DCAU Clark starts seeing a firefighter girl that he works with after Bruce convinces him he needs to have the Human experience again, can't be Superman all the time, and gives him a new alter ego (and that it's been long enough since Lois died)
