Was it the first bad CGI animated film or was it misunderstood kino ? The hatred it got from critics back in 2004 was absolutely insane

I liked it as a kid, and i think it holds up. But it could just be my nostalgia shades
>Was it the first bad CGI animated film
No.
Yet it was still received mostly postively. Shark Tale was the first CGI animated film to be poorly received by critics, and as time has proven, it wouldn't be the last
i like this movie
That credits song tho youtube.com
It's a shame that this film didn't turn out to be as great as they wanted to, because you can tell Dreamworks was hoping this would be their next Shrek. They got 3 directors, 10 writers, some of the most expensive actors in the business, plus Martin Scorcece, and also got a lot of music artists like Christina Aguilera, Ludacris and D12. They wanted this to be huge.
I liked it as a kid but it's pretty shallow
who cares about the critics
Shark tale still made bank
>Martin Scorcece
Marvel isn't cinema. But apparently Shark Tale is.
Looking back, I feel bad for making my mom take me to see this.
Was this movie that bad? I remember liking it as a toddler. Then again, I was obsessed with dinosaurs back then, anyway.
For sure, it was the 9th highest grossing film of the year and even got an academy award nomination. It definitely proved that CGI animated films don't need good reviews to be successful
She probably enjoyed it more. The film was aimed more at the parents that took their kids to see it, rather than the actual kids
Aren't most Dreamworks films ? Heck, i'd say their next 2 films, Madagascar and Over the Hedge, were even more shallow than this
People either love it genuinely or out of nostalgia or think it's the devil incarnate but for me, it's alright
god I remember having all those shitty hand puppets McDonald's put out for that cinematic abortion
These would be funny on a penis
Personally, i love it, mostly out of nostalgia. I still find the urban music video feel and funky color palette to be kinda charming
Those are HAND puppets, not FINGER puppets
Shark tale is unironically better than any marvel film
It’s okay, would’ve been 10x better if the cast were humans though
yes
indisputably
I still own the video game for this movie, but have no recollection of ever playing it
The fact that this was Peter Falk's only voice acting gig will always piss me off
Shark tell was great though.
It was one of his very last roles too. He was in his 70s back then
Not really. A lot of the jokes and some elements of the story, like Oscar pretending to kill Lenny, wouldn't work with a human cast
It's weird how this film had 3 directors, including the ones behind Road to el dorado, Shrek 1 and Detective Pikachu. It was also written by the Ice Age 1 writer, surprisingly
every so often i remember the weird looking will smith fish plush and burst out laughing
He's just a funny design in general. The character is supposed to be an oblivious dumbass, and the design fits very well.
Fuck off this movie was the shit
It was hated? Huh, well im glad that disnt matter to me as a kid, Ijust watched and enjoyed Gill Smith
i like it. people said it has dated references but its still funny without knowing the context
I saw it for the first time last year and it was boring. The plot itself was really underwhelming too.
I don't get the hate for this one. But my love for dinosaurs is probably making me avoid seeing flaws.
that movie is a misunderstood masterpiece

Some of the designs are kinda weird but it's really not that bad
>It's pop culture thing but ghetto
I'm glad this trend died, I mean it got kids' butts in the theaters, but it was lazy leeching.
I was in a dinosaur phase when I saw it, pretty boring movie crisscrossing Walking with Dinosaurs and Land Before Time
The plot was one of my favorite things about it. It was a nice departure from the Point A to Point B stories from most CGI animations at the time, which was getting quite stale
Never understood why critics said that it's all pop culture references. There were a few, but not that much. If anything, Shrek 2 and Madagascar had way more of them imo
Was there really that much ghetto in this film ? Other than a bunch of graffiti spraying kids, there wasn't much. It was more focused on mafias and celebrities than urban stuff
They are still funny even if you dont know the reference
Shrek 2 definitely had the better use of references, while Madagascar had the worst ones imo. This was sort of in the middle.
>Was it the first bad CGI animated film
I'd say that was Final Fantasy the Spirits within.
That was actually pretty good, though.
It's kinda funny how this film and GTA San Andreas came out only a few days apart, since they're pretty similar in some ways, mostly in the ghetto urban setting and black MC
that's just pop culture from hollywood and music making its way into animation and games
Ghetto shit was popular in the 2000s, that's how we got masterpieces like NutShack.
It's a terrible thing. Everyone loved Frankie. May whoever did this die a thousand deaths. May his stinking, maggot-covered corpse rot in the fiery depths of hell.
dreamworks SOUL
pixar SOULLESS
its kino and I will die on this hill. Great caste, great acting, great characters, and great script. Fuck you if you disagree, I'm not fucking arguing.
I'm with you, it's kino. The script is pretty clever
Always loved how they intentionally gave the Scorsese pufferfish some of the silliest lines and moments, like mentioning whale poo or doing the cabbage patch dance. They also highpitched his voice everytime he inflates, which is hilarious to hear
the rasta jellyfish were based
X, circle, X, X, double left, square, right trigger, down, square, square
>whole plot happens because Will Smith Fish gambled his money away instead of paying his debt
>kino script
>Dreamworks film in 2004
>not Shrek
>"The hatred it got from critics back in 2004 was absolutely insane"
Gee I wonder why.
I can understand why he did it, even if it was the wrong thing to do. The race was rigged and the horse payed 200 to 1. The writers were smart enough to show his tragic backstory and how shitty his life was before the gambling scene.
I liked Will Smith fish. I like flawed protagonist that go through character development. Besides, he wasn't selfish or a bad person, just an ambitious dreamer who wasn't very rational or smart.

Whew, glad I'm not the only one who likes this movie
