I didn't quit reading comics, I just read comics that were published before 2005
Imagine quitting an entire medium because of your distaste with two publishers and one genre in one market of one country.
>bad action scene
I'll give you that.
>boring villains who are always pure evil and dumb as fuck
You may have whatever gripes you have with Marvel's top baddies like Doom, Magneto or Thanos, but objectively, none of them are pure evil, all of them had sympathetic moments and their characterization had a ton of (admittedly contradictory) nuance over the decades. You're more correct if you're talking about someone like Green Goblin, but it's not like pure evil is bad by default.
>>an art style that has not changed for years
What the fuck? Dozens of comics have dozens of different artstyles
>Doom, Magneto or Thanos
And this is the point where you show yourself as a casual person who has only seen movies. In the comics they're just assholes, like the original Thanos, he was just a simp who wanted Lady Death's approval.
>Dozens of comics have dozens of different artstyles
Then why do I see same thing every time?
>it's like other publishers are better
>it's not like they make same crap as Marvel/DC but more edgy.
>it's not like manga did not exist
Why is every comics moron convinced that there are no alternatives to comics?
>And this is the point where you show yourself as a casual person who has only seen movies. In the comics they're just assholes, like the original Thanos, he was just a simp who wanted Lady Death's approval.
No u.
Literally.
You yourself sound like a casual who has only seen the movies.
Doom has been obnoxiously portrayed in a sympathetic light so often this board has an autist screeching about him every time it happens. You name a Doom comic from the last several decades, 90% it's got a sympathetic portrayal of Doom. His portrayal in movies actually resembles "just an asshole" much more.
Magneto is similar. He's consistently portrayed as much of a victim as he is a perpetrator. Do you really believe it was the movies that came up with his ideological war with Xavier? Actually, I don't know if Magneto is even considered a villain currently, I remember some years ago he was relegated to antihero, but I don't know if Marvel has backpedaled on that already.
Thanos's motivation was much more than "lmao death pussy", and you'd know that if you read the original Starlin's cosmic trilogy (The Captain Marvel Cosmic Cube saga, The War With Adam Warlock and, naturally, The Infinity Gauntlet). Thanos admired not just the personification of Death, but the concept of death itself. His initial goal was "total stellar genocide", the annihilation of all life and Death herself was actually holding him back from murdering everyone. She regretted her decision to use him as her herald, because Thanos took it too seriously, gained more power than her and grew so self-righteous he thought he understood death better than Death itself. Deep inside, of course, he loathed himself for that, which was what led to his defeat at the end of IG.
>Then why do I see same thing every time?
I dunno user, maybe you don't look hard enough? Tell me, for example, exactly how is art of Chris Bachalo, Steve Lieber and Mark Bagley "the same thing"?
Right now magneto is only a villian if you classify Xavier and moira as villains, since he seems to amongst an inner circle of the Krakoa stuff.
>Doom has been obnoxiously portrayed in a sympathetic light
If this is a sympathetic light for you then congratulations, you're dumb as fuck.
These people seem to like him.
My reasons for reading comics
>no Japanese Junk
>back in the day a term used to dismiss any products from those dirty fucks
>Americana present in some way still
>No garbage bullshit perpetuated by faggot anime
>bad action scene
I'd take it over over-the-top weeaboo garbage, thank you.
>boring villains who are always pure evil
Good. Fuck muh sympathetic villains.
>and dumb as fuck
No dumber than weebshit villains.
>an art style that has not changed for years
Unlike weebshit where everything looks the same.
>>Americana present in some way still
I do read them now and then, but I mostly stopped because there's no one to fucking discuss them with, literally no one reads western comics. The feeling of community and discussion really elevates any media for me, and the lack of that in comics makes me kinda depressed.
>>No garbage bullshit perpetuated by faggot anime
ever tried european comics?
>No dumber than weebshit villains.
Just as dumb as anime garbage.
it's sad but i'd rather enjoy something almost nobody else does than read garbage that lot's of people discuss like manga
At least they have a sense of style.
Oh pls, boomer, you can do better.
oooooooh it's a flamboyant guy with eeeevvil eyes ooooooooooh, never seen that before
oh you got me
>literally no one reads western comics
I wonder why
twitter.com
It's better than all the Marvel villains, at least it looks serious.
this is the worst thread
Looking like a pathetic faggot is not "serious"
I never quit reading comics since there's more to comics than just Marvel and DC. Buying floppies though, that I quit once they hit $2.50 a pop and just occasionally check bargain bins for trades I want to try.
Overall stagnation in the medium cause by cash grab gimmicks. Also every other form of entertainment is vastly cheaper.
Global pandemic killed all the comic shops.
Goblin is a design that is hard to pull off in a "cereal n' gritty" setting but it's still more creative than another bishonen bad guy, yes.
>looks like a rich cunt who has influential friends
>is not "serious"
Okay fanboy.
You sound really insecure.
>Also every other form of entertainment is vastly cheaper.
How the fuck is million-dollar CGI in vidya and Hollywood movies cheaper than Microsoft Word, Photoshop and a bunch of paper?
He looks like a pathetic faggot. If that's serious to you, anime rotted your brain.
To look like a mature, successful man means this to you to "looks like a pathetic faggot". Okay zoomer, we understand your hatred for successful people.
Because story arcs span multiple issues and through multiple titles, shit adds up. Very as a game is a one time buy and I can put 500-1000 hours if I like it enough. Even when you consider trades, you looking at $30-40 for a complete story.
Go look at Hunter Rose. That's a mature successful man. This faggot looks like a pussy.
superhero comics never have an ending it just keeps going until its cancelled
Pretty much this for the big 2. I only read from certain eras.
>DC: 1940's, 1980's, 2010's.
>Marvel: 1960's, 1980's, 2000's
>Image: 2000's
>Dark Horse: 1990's
Obviously, there are exceptions. I'll avoid most 90's DC, but will still read JLI, Sandman, and Starman.
Marvel gave us the perfect jumping-off point with Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers/Secret Wars epic. As far as I'm concerned, there isn't much written after by Marvel that's worth reading. I'll wait to see how Hickman's X-Saga ends before picking up the trades.
A superhero comic is not one continuous story though. They are a bunch of smaller stories.
>Hunter Rose
>That's a mature successful man.
He literally is unlike your whiny edgelord.
I can't blame him. The Big Two have a huge share of the market that any effort to find anything "different" a daunting task.
You literally have to work to find the diamonds.
As if we didn't have an infinite manga that would never end. This is not a problem, the main problem with comics is complete lack of a quality bar, as a result shit like the New Warriors goes to print.
Too fat.
capecomics shat on every series/continuity I liked and grew up with, and now they just copy each others yearly events, and there are very few other comics which are good. I still follow those, but it's 3-4 books a week on a good week.
Yes, this is because there are alternatives. The better alternatives, when a story in a mobile game is better than a story in a comics that should have been a bad omens for creators. If they had a brain, but unfortunately they don't.
When I put comics down for some time, it feels like I read all the good ones.
There is only one reason to quit reading comics, but the reason is huge and called
>BAD WRITING
that's all, any potential of stories, concepts or heroes the Big 2 writers are simply incapable to realize because they are recruited according to party policy, not because they are talented.
Out of those 3 only the first one is true.
Capefags have such an inferiority complex to manga don't they?
All the art styles that I see today I saw back in the 90s.
>Shaming evil villains
Fuck off OP. It's self-inserting assholes like you that get every crook "redeemed" or "sympathetic"
I haven't quit, but now I only try to read comics that have an ending. I don't like being strung along for years at a time for what ultimately amounts to very little payoff.
No.
>boring villains who are always pure evil and dumb as fuck
>an art style that has not changed for years
sounds like your typical manga
besides there aren't just superhero comics, try read some auteur like Hugo Pratt or whatnot
More like wasted potential, for example confrontation between Nuke and Cap could be such a good story, but idiots from Marvel are doing their best to make Cap feel no responsibility for his actions.
Oh please, have some class and try better.
i only care for One Punch Man and it's mostly because of Murata's superior art
the rest is all garbage, get that shit out of my face, you weeb
