Gravity Falls esque humor, AMAZING characters (including the best main character of any cartoon in a LONG time, pictured), and solid as fuck worldbuilding to the point where we have an entire established original world in only ten total episodes.
The Owl House is already a classic in my eyes. Already rewatched it, really want to do so a third time but don't want to overindulge and ruin it for myself.
Anyway, more about this show's main character, Luz Naceda. She's not only adventurous, "weird", high-energy, and unique like most cartoon protagonists (not necessarily a bad thing), but she's all of those things WITHOUT being over-the-top, zany, or annoying. This random Youtuber can describe it better than me:
"While both Star and Luz are characters who end up causing trouble due to their reckless attitudes toward their desires, Star is generally causing trouble without regard to the rules, whereas Luz is trying to fit in like everyone else, but with her own unique spin. She's not ignoring her book report to make mayhem, she's trying to make it more fun for others and accidentally causing mayhem as a result." ..... "When adults are talking to Luz, she is calm and respectful. When adults are talking to Star, she's ignoring them, reaching for whatever will make her happy, and screaming at the top of her lungs. The Owl House doesn't make Luz shout, or scream, or act really hyper to give the illusion that she is weird. They trust the character to do that on her own." Video for reference: youtube.com/watch?v=-uEWtlAMfQE
But anyway, even though Gravity Falls revolutionized the industry by showing the studios how financially viable a serialized, plot-driven children's cartoon could be, the main characters aren't anything to write home about (talking about Dipper and Mabel - Stan is a golden treasure of a character). Dipper is pretty much just the "insecure nerd who gains confidence" archetype mixed with Martin Mystery. Mabel is even more 2-dimensional, and while Alex Hirsch of course did a great job with fleshing these characters out, neither have a thing on Luz who is a complex, multi-faceted character from the first episode she appears in.

This post would be far too long if I even brought up Amity or Eda (I can take or leave King), so I'll leave it here. But in conclusion - give The Owl House a try, if you haven't yet. Amazing characters make the show, but the world and humor make it a true classic.
Also, just realized I got Luz Noceda's name wrong earlier, apologies.
Levi Taylor
I'm claiming this thread in the name of best owl before the pedos show up.
Please don't tell me this show has a fanbase like that ugh
Luz is precious and adorable yes, but in the way that she's badass and determined and positive no matter how shitty her situation is. Why does this site take good shows and ruin them with sex shit?
Luis Hughes
Also I love Eda, pretty much a Stan character if Stan was hyper-competent.
I love Stan, but literally the only reason he's presented as this clever criminal / scam artist is because of the town he lives in. Where everyone is an idiot and the cops don't care.
Eda is an actual world-class criminal, and it's far more impressive because she lives in a world with reasonably-intelligent average citizens and a "police force" that actually wants her taken to jail. She has wanted posters up. That's a more intriguing character for sure. Only thing is that as cool as Eda is, she doesn't get those iconic, hilarious one-liners that Stan does, and also (so far) doesn't have a truly jaw dropping backstory / excuse for her actions like Stan does, either.
Henry Robinson
more importantly is how anyone could find calarts style even remotely attractive.
even MORE importantly is why people like you even care as if they're actual human children.
Christopher Rodriguez
I'm surprised how much more lewds there of Luz than Eda.
I just knew about this show two days and I felt the exact same way! For me I always watch shows with my brain first: to rationalize and judge and assess. But The Owl House won my heart. When watching the ending song for the second episode I started crying. The world, Luz, Eda, King, Amity, everyone. It's just so beautiful.
Eli Bennett
Fuck off, nigger.
Justin Johnson
This thread actually makes me wanna watch the show now, thanks OP!
They're characters I've grown attached to, and just like any attachment, you don't want to see them hurt, even on the show.
So when real-life people take those characters, and put them into sexually compromising positions in their art and stories, yes it's disturbing. You have the characters you've grown to love, acting in completely out-of-character ways, to satisfy some dude in Idaho's fetish.
The fact that she's underage is bad enough, but I'm not even brushing on that. Someone could make fanart of Dale Cooper fucking Annie Blackburn, and it would be just as traumatic to see. The fact is, whether it makes sense or not, when we see depictions of humans on television in the form of relatable characters, we DO get attached to them. And we want to protect them and look out for them and want them to stay safe. Knowing there's this rule 34 shit out there just puts me at such unease, and I know I'm not the only one.
Aiden Ortiz
thanks user
seeing r34 is more traumatic than seeing normal porn, because it becomes the equivalent of seeing porn of your siblings/parents/friends (and when you're NOT into that kinda stuff)
Dylan Hernandez
I enjoyed your post. You sound like a genuinely good person.
Jonathan Cook
I love Luz. The show could be complete shit, I'd still watch it for her. But I like the show too. I like how it slowly introduces new elements of worldbuilding. More details on the 9 covens would be interesting in the 2nd part of S1. I also want to see more of Kikimora.
I'm disgusted that people like you are posting on Yas Forums. #34 is not only a thing, it is THE thing, almost the whole purpose of Yas Forums material, and it is the purest expression of love for a character. I'm also sickened by your outrage at the underage bit - they're fictional, and that's the whole point. You think cartoon porn is some obscure thing? It's been around since the Internet itself (and before, DECADES before) and has a vast, gigantic number of people (actual fans, unlike you) both producing and enjoying such materials.
The mere fact you're "outraged" over this means you should fuck off to reddit or whatever shithole you crawled from. You simply don't belong here, you're the pieces of moralfag shit that utterly destroys everything that has meaning and is authentic, you're sterile, dead, meaningless. Fuck off and never return.

not "outraged", just disappointed that your first instinct for love is your dick
Nolan Hill
Not even responding to the rest of that truly abhorrent post. I only spend time arguing with people who might have a sliver of a chance to see things my way, and you're obviously just way too far gone. No one can help you, not here or ever.
>I only spend time arguing with people who might have a sliver of a chance to see things my way Exactly. Fuck off back to whatever sterile circlejerk shithole website you came from.
>No one can help you, not here or ever. Do you even know where you are?
>Fuck off back to whatever sterile circlejerk shithole website you came from.
Did you miss the post where I declined that? Let me repeat.
Asking me nicely won't work, I'm afraid. I'm just as valid of a user here as you. More valid, in fact. I love cartoons, you just like getting off on them.
OP, could you tell me some vague teases/facts about the world that'd sell me on it? I'm curious
Brandon Long
Chances are great that I've been a cartoon fan since before you were even born. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about, since your mentality is that of an absolute outsider who has no connection to the board culture or the greater cartoon fandom. Your posts reek of soccer moms and censorship.
This place is not for you and you will find that out very soon.
Jose Diaz
I am a famous Yas Forums user sorry
this is just a new board that will know me soon
(This is cringy but someone made this for me. I have literal followers haha. Who are you?)
>Amity's hair She dyes it green to fit in with her siblings. She’s a natural brunette because her real Dad is Luz’s Dad and he gave them both Azura books
Joshua Hill
Oh, no! Now my Lumity fanfiction has been rendered hideously immoral!
Justin Nguyen
I would like to hear your thoughts on Amnity.
That said I'd probably forgo the trip code. We don't do those here.
Ian Gomez
Surely they knew people would ship Lumity and won't pull this shit. I prefer the theory of Luz's dad being the Emperor.
I'm bad at this - best I can say is that the show takes its world very seriously, and that the world itself changes yet remains consistent with what's been established about it.
Of the locations that are static and gone back to a few times, one of my favorites is the school for teaching magic, which yes, does sound VERY typical/tropey. However, the school is set up in this dystopic, almost "realistic" way where students are fast-tracked onto different tracks of magic, and it's mainly just what their parents want them to go into more than anything else. Standardized tests are a thing, and it's set up to be almost a conventional boarding school, in all of the darkness and hopelessness that entails. As you can probably tell from my description of Luz in the OP, that comes into a perfectly realized conflict with her later on.
Again, not too good with hyping things up. But I definitely enjoyed the show.
Carson Gomez
The show isn't nearly as good as the cunt claims it to be, and my guess is she hasn't watched enough cartoons to understand that. TOH is a paint-by-numbers corporate emptiness that doesn't offer anything of substance. The world may look interesting in screenshots but it's a big pile of nothing. The setting should work, but it doesn't. It's ill-defined and devoid of substance. The whole show is like that and that's why people watch it either for Amity or Luz.
The show suffers from what I could call overthinking. There's no passion involved or anything authentic about it. It's a product of market research, pie charts and focus group testing, a mish mash of things from other cartoons like GF (and certain designs lifted from Berserk as a homage) which again are obviously there because algorithms said they should. The show abandons its main premise within the first two episodes and contradicts itself a lot. Luz is presented to us as a friendless weirdo in the first ep, but we see her not only easily making friends in the second ep but being very outgoing and energetic as well as charming. People actively want to be her friends. Even the things that allegedly make her weird are just things any normal kid would like or understand liking. The whole plot of her wanting to learn magic also... kinda stops being a thing almost immediately. The whole first season is essentially eventless, not a damn thing happened in terms of the "main plot" if we can even speak of a main plot because it's obvious the show has no clear direction or purpose, and clearly no actual plan for the whole story. Also, King is just there to be a mascot, he serves no purpose.
Feel free to check it out but unless you fall for Luz or Amity (or Eda if you're into old women) you'll be disappointed.
Kayden Gomez
...ah you're trolling. I see. well played.
8/10 would be trolled again. Managed to pull one over on account of enjoying a show I myself enjoyed and having a well worded post of the show.
Christian Miller
>I am a famous Yas Forums user sorry Ah, so you're a troll. Well played. I remember the origin of the concept though, from that obese woman that used to claim she's a tripgoddess on facebook. That was over ten years ago.
Amity is amazing, easily the best "bully" character we've had in a long time, probably since Libby on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Also very important that they don't drag out her bully arc. We see very early on that she genuinely wants to be the best witch she can be, and despises cheating. And after she and Luz have their little adventure together, it's not some reset to the status quo thing where Amity still dislikes her - they actually start to like each other.
I wish she was in it more, though. She doesn't even appear until episode 3, and there are far too few plots focusing on her. "The Convention" is probably my favorite episode just for the Amity focus it has. Hopefully season 2 brings a lot more of her.
And haha, believe me I've gotten flak for this on every board I've been on, and I understand if you hate me for it. But I refuse to spend time on these thought-out quality posts if I'm just signing the post away to "Anonymous" who pervades every single post. It might make me kind of an annoying user for sure, but yes I do enjoy having an actual name to tie my posts to. I do enjoy having an identity, and yes, I know that that "defeats the point of Yas Forums" or whatever, but the draw of Yas Forums for me has never been about the anonymity, it's about the activity and how you can find pretty much any board to suit your interests.
So considering that I indeed have a "username" feature, I'm definitely utilizing it. And I'll continue to do so until they remove it. I don't expect to not be disliked for that, and you won't see me complaining about being disliked for it. Fair is fair, and I've made this choice. It's up to individual anons to decide how they respond to it.
Jeremiah Jackson
>it's about the activity and how you can find pretty much any board to suit your interests. not nagging or something but i think reddit would be better suited for that for you
Kevin Reed
I'm not, actually. I enjoy being praised and would just accept the high marks if I was. But no, just go on /lgbt/ and ask about me. Go on my 300 member server, or even go on Sep7agon.net where they hate my snarky attitude more than anything else.
I'm a unique, somewhat irritating poster, and maybe some of my posts lean into that. "Famous Yas Forums user" does sound lame in retrospect, but whoever I was talking to was treating me like I just strolled in from reddit or something, which definitely isn't the case.
You have no identity on reddit. Everyone has some username without an avatar, and people aren't going to recognize you. I often get "do more DXM carmen" or something, and it makes me happy, even if the comment is vitriolic, that I'm recognized and people know some of my character traits.
You simply don't get that on reddit.
Landon Butler
Your well thought out post is pretty much a repost of a youtube video by the same name. Amnity has never been the bully or hell much of an antagonist beyond the trope of the expert character that shows up the protagonist.
You're simply parroting other people's opinions while trolling your own originality by ignoring board culture and the like.
You yourself are more or less ignoring a somewhat central theme of the show about how it is as much about accepting individuality while accepting that it is okay to fit in and comfort.
Justin Ward
on reddit everyone has a username, but on Yas Forums it stands out if you indeed do have one, that's why you're noticed with a name
i'm simply just saying that this board may react to you aversely if you keep it up, but gl ig

Do you think Eda ever ate Luz by accident and she got trapped in a gross owl pellet and had to take a shower I just thought that'd be funny ha ha ha ha

Amity is definitely written as a bully character. Perhaps my intake of all sorts of different opinions, whether they be youtube videos or just text posts, has indeed weakened my overall grasp of the show, but I'm not parroting anything. I'm saying what I believe to be true about the show and its characters, and yes maybe someone beat me to the punch, but that's literally ok. Haha
Makes sense. IMO everyone should use the username option here. Like, what are you hiding? Do you not stand by your posts? Why use the anonymous feature if you're proud of what you're posting?
This place would be a lot livelier, and conversations easier to follow, if everyone had a username. And then I could stand out by the force of my personality alone.

there's a genuine culture in being "part" of anonymous, being part of the collective hivemind/groupthink it gives, it has a different presence than 3-5 "entities" communicating to eachother
though what you're describing is something already irredeemable for large parts of Yas Forums, it's just become a radiant shitfest for the most part, but i appreciate your optimism and will for bringing change in places like this
Sebastian White
Trolling doesn't work once you've been figured out. You should quit while you're ahead and try it on another board.
As stated, I remember the woman who did it unironically over ten years ago and I'm sure I still have the screenshots somewhere in my old Yas Forums folder. Assuming you actually spend time on Yas Forums as user and this is your test run know that I'm actually Kaziklu, posting as user due to one of those short bans for off topic discussions and as such my long presence in this purgatory resulted in me witnessing the actual origin of your trolling tactic. I congratulate you for successfully trolling me. You are the first person to do so in well over a decade. I'm not bullshitting you, I'm genuinely smiling and I've got tears in my eyes. I have the utmost respect for you, thought that bit outed you (refrain from doing that in the future for maximum effect, the "I have followers bit"; also try to sniff out boards with few oldfags). Right now, in this most unlikely of times I've caught a glimpse of what Yas Forums once used to be, and I will remember this golden moment for years to come.
You deserve a fucking medal. 10/10, successful troll is successful, I admit defeat and recognize your greatness.
What percentage of owl house fans are pedos that want to licky lick Luz compared to like loud house fans?
Joshua Carter
For me, the appeal of anonymity in Yas Forums is that posts stand on their own. Because there are no predetermined notions, ideas are discussed rather than personalities.
Isaac Thomas
>there's a genuine culture in being "part" of anonymous, being part of the collective hivemind/groupthink it gives
You say culture, I say creepy. Yikes!
To me, what you described sounds terrible - like why would I want to not be an individual? I hope you see I'm not trying to disparage those who does choose to post this way, but just for me personally it would never work.
And thanks! I guess I do have an optimism, which is why I never get down from any Internet people telling me I'm a piece of shit or whatever they say. It's just words on a screen, and they're even less meaningful, frankly, when they come from a box that says "Anonymous". Sometimes I can be hurt when specific personalities on the boards I go on are extra cutting that day about me, but those are people with a username and avatar - people I've known for years. You can't get that kind of connection on Yas Forums, unless you meet someone else with a trip.
Robert Walker
unsure if actually calling out god-level trolling, or painting it as such
Jayden Gutierrez
Because outside of Yas Forums, we are individuals. We're isolated people who have no group to belong to. Which is why we come here to be a part of something and enjoy being a faceless user.
Carson Foster
ngl its encouraging to see this kinda opinion from people on here, but i would warn you that i can already tell that some of your views/opinions/ideas will clash heavily with the general culture here
general recommendation; drop the "look its me" attitude (on here), and just be a person on here, people will give you shit for tripping, but just let them be but also dont give them more fuel than you already do with tripping normally
Nolan Collins
I really want to claim that I did this now. Like you don't understand how much I need gratification in my life. I'm so tempted to just be like "ahhhh nice job, I'll try again later", and soak up that wonderful 10/10. It doesn't help me at all that I used to legitimately troll on Bungie.net when I was like 13 and wanted reactions just like this one.
The TRULY unfortunate thing, though, is that I don't do that kind of stuff, and I haven't in a long, long time. Believe me that I wouldn't "fight" it like this if I was figured out, that's just not classy.
Sometimes I can be overzealous in how much I lean into my hubris, that's all I can say. I've had a history of self-hate all throughout my life, and it's only been recently in the past two or so years that I've overcome that by being the complete opposite, and being extremely into myself, my icon, and my legacy. What may have started as an artificial narcissism has evolved into an actual one.
So please, if it makes you feel more content, believe that I trolled you with all of this, but I'm afraid the truth is a bit more complex.
Isaiah Bailey
No, no - this is the real deal. This is a master of the craft at work. I thought they were all extinct. I'll confirm it in another thread or opportunity when you see me with my trip, just ask. This level of skill hasn't existed in a very, VERY long time and I feel no shame at acknowledging it as such. My faith in the Internet has been restored. What a wonderful fucking day.
they look like they should flap about wildly whenever she speaks

Sure, sure you magnificent bastard. I'll shut up now, what's been said has been said, have your fun. I won't call you out in other instances but I'll definitely wink in your direction once I'm me again.
