It's not just that they're word dumps but that a lot of them circle around the same topics of meta narrative/philosophical circle wank which have put people off. But you're right in that it's not like they're out of nowhere.
Continuity Errors being in-story to candy is also true, but it's still not too hard to believe some things they forgot or glossed over.
