Newgrounds hasn't been active in years enough for people to claim some kind of Newgrounds style. There's like, eight old-school guys still clinging on to the site for being the place where they first got a fanbase. It's like people trying to argue about a SheezyArt style or a fucking LiveJournal style. People would assume NG was dead if it wasn't for Tumblr banning porn.

No, but there is a common artsyle that has links to Newgrounds and several creators from it, just as the Calarts style does, even though not every artist from Calarts follows it and not every Calarts-styled show has direct links to the school itself.
The term is just being used by butthurt twitter users who can't admit that a lot of modern shows have a similar art style and some people don't like it.
