The DCAU was the beginning of "Sad asshole Batman is canon." Modern Batman doesn't get to be happy, so no perfect Amazonian waifu to dig him out of his mopey bullshit. Instead we get Bruce knocking up his adopted son's first love before driving said Amazonian into the arms of his fascist-but-somehow-still-better-adjusted alternate dimension counterpart and retiring after watching his last robin raped into madness by his arch villain...yeah.

I don't know what was up with the crossover but it looked like someone really wanted to cuck Clark at the writting room.

Setting aside Batman Beyond, I think part of the reason is because they were starting to get flak about how WW was a non-entity character-wise in JL with little focus, and giving her something to do by making her Batman's gf would have left a pretty poor taste in people's mouths.

They could've had fun beating up bad guys together every night.

Batman would be Wonder Woman's boyfriend much more than she would be his girlfriend, just going on their dynamic.

It's implied that Bruce is afraid of strong women and preys on weak ones. One of the reasons why the DCAU is hated is because Batman groomed Batgirl to be his girlfriend

DC just has it in their mind that you shouldn’t give him that kind of happiness. He’s gonna keep selling with or without her. They really want her with Superman to give them a boost and tried a ton to make it take off, but not everyone goes together and nobody liked it. Batman goes well either one of those two really and Clark has Lois, who is well known enough.

Problem with Superman is they turn WW into a bitch to create any semblance of tension and to make him look like the sane one.

On the contrary, in JL when she's with Batman WW is the sane one, and the more humane one. Her naivety and hope are great contrast with Bat's cynicism, realism and harsh self imposed rules.
How he breaks character for his allies and for her (like when he starts digging through dirt in Gorilla City) gives a great sense of hope in their relationship.
Whenever Batman is with Wonder Woman he appears at his most vulnerable. It's great.

the fact batman had the audacity to willingly compete with gods like them was part of what charmed her I think. He's a mortal who punches well above his belt when he has no right to, through a mixture of talent, luck, and sheer audacity.

I could see why she would find him interesting in that regard. Batman also does well with a foil who can keep him in check, and even in the comics wonder woman has proven highly resistant to batmans bullshit plot armor, making her quite different from supes, who always seems to find a way to fuck it up.

If not for Supes, Lois and Bruce were not bad except she hates Batman
