We all know that superheroes rarely stay dead forever. Especially when it comes to the big two. But still, comic book deaths can be written well or very poorly. So post and discuss your favorite and least favorite death scenes in comics.
Comic Book Death
Kyle Rainer should put Bitch Simone into a fridge.
Shut up dude.
The fucking Brave and the Bold version. Jesus. Still brings tears to my eyes.
>No Skurge
>Adam Warlocks weird timeloop suicide
This whole issue was basically the perfect send-off to sabretooth
so of course, it was revealed almost immediately he wasn't really dead
Iconic
I don't even like dogs and this still makes me well up. The scene later where Vartox sobs as he cradles Lana's body hits hard as well.
>But although I am The Watcher and I see all things, I do not know all things. I can only hope, which is right and proper, for that was the gift of his life... to create hope where none previously existed
>I know only this
>That his name was Norrin Radd, once the Silver Surfer, Herald of Galactus. That his actions saved the lives of billions.
>That he was my friend.
>And he will be missed.
I hated and hate this.
It has one worthwhile line and the rest is a cringefest.

For me, the best death was Titanium Man.
The worst death was Doctor Druid in his own aborted series.
Why? Because she pointed out a disturbing phenomenon?
Oh, also this.
Melvin Mole.
Every death in death of the Inhumans was a shit death. It's actually kind of impressive how nobody went out on a decent note. I think the main problem is somehow most of the deaths were the Inhumans killing each other rather than the bad guy killing people.
This still hits hard and comes completely out of nowhere, and I really wish the cover hadn't pushed the "someone's going to die" angle as a marketing stunt.
Im still mad about Mettle
Least favorite is probably Lian Harper in Gay for Justice. It's supposed to tug at my heartstrings but all I feel is fury.
Rahne
George dying a couple of years earlier makes that seem like less of a shock than it could have been.
What is she dead again? I guess it's better than her getting beaten to death by humans as part of a shitty allegory for tranny rights.
How does it compare to the death of the Eternals in Aaron's Avengers run or the X-Men deaths written by Rosenberg?
it's from X-Men: the end
>X-Men deaths written by Rosenberg?
Cates is bad but not that bad.
X-men deaths > Inhumans > Eternals
The only really bad deaths in the X-men was Rahne letting herself get killed and Blindspot killing herself. The Inhumans were worse because they killed each other either by mistake or unclear reasons. The Eternals tops them both because the entire race killed themselves for something they have known for years. The explanation given was they killed themselves because they found out they exist to protect humans until the celestials can use them to stop the horde. Except they have known that they were made to protect humans and they have known about the horde, I don't see how the humans being connected to that warrants killing themselves. The worst part is that is almost certain they were killed so that they can be revived in forms closer to the movie version.
meant for
I didn't think A Death in the Family was all that good, but I did enjoy the issue where Jason died an thought the scene where Batman found him was pretty powerful
I dunno you’d think something like that would’ve prevented her from dying, especially since her fathers dying wish was for peter to keep her safe
That death still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It was so unnecessary.
A better writer could have made something of it, though. That issue made me realize that Gerry Conway was a hack.
This
>That issue made me realize that Gerry Conway was a hack.
The motherfucker was 19 and had barely started his career.
The only problem with the story is that Captain Stacy's death became kinda pointless, everything else was well handled.
I wonder where they idea that falling can kill you even if you don't hit the ground comes from?
"Anti-Matter fusion reactor"
"In effect, a tiny sun"
Why are cape comic book writers so utterly ignorant of anything that smells like science?
Abomination's death to Red Hulk was the definition of shitty.
It's like watching an anime where the cooler villain jobs to the NEW AND EVEN MORE COOLER one who's just a fucking letdown.
Nothing quite beats seeing all the DC superheroes gathered before a tiny casket like it's a fucking clown funeral.
I absolutely hated it when DC started slaughtering characters just for cannon fodder.
WWIII was a literal butcher shop.
Osborn killing Swordsman was pretty sweet. Not the real Swordsman but the sister fucker.
if they all weren't in costume it could have been potent, instead it makes it look like they couldn't be bothered to change out of their work clothes, no wonder roy went crazy
The fact that the rest of the issue is just Peter dealing with her death and failing miserably hit pretty hard
That's the second to last page of the issue, user. And the last paage is just one panel.
I was thinking of the issue after. My bad.
>look guys, I did it! I posted it!
To be fair, how many funerals have comics depicted heroes going to in civvies? This makes them much more identifiable.
Obligatory
It's Shi'ar tech, so I guess it could be handwaved away as anything at all....
Titanium Man's death was a hard loss for me as well. But when Stark and Natasha make jokes about his name at the end of the issue it loses the emotion it should have had
Ehh it's in character. Pic related is Max Lord's funeral (before that awful plot twist retconning him into an always villain), where it was even more jarring because he also had normal human relatives and friends, who were present and disgusted at their superhero shenanigans with fighting while demolishing other graves and stuff.
I think Sue Dibny had most of them in normal clothes, but I can't post pic since I refuse to even download that shit comic.
I won't post it out of respect for your feelings but I can confirm that the vast majority of those at the front of the church are actually in costume.
ollies funeral in the injustice comic had them in suits, I'm pretty sure at least
I know for certain cyborg at least was dressed for the occasion
Death of The New Gods was so much bullshit
But it's kind of bullshit confirmation bias when you actually look at it.
>but I don't like it so it doesn't count
I agree with him, fridging is bullshit.
Turns out all she needed to get her groove back was go to Hell!
Owwwwhh
