I never understood the appeal

I never understood the appeal.

Me neither. I'm not trying to knock anyone else's choices, I just never got into Spidey.

ok what do you want me to do about it

That's cool, not everybody is going to like the same things.

Apparently he was the first superhero character to be relatable and have a little depth.

I like his psychic power of not needing a phone or a network to do his business

So his only appeal is a straight up lie?

My favorite Marvel comic. For me Thor and Iron Man are the characters I never got. Like who gives a shit

That's okay, user. Not everyone likes the same hero. Even though I like Spider-Man, I'm sure there's a hero you love that I personally don't get the appeal of. Tastes work like that.

I've always preferred Miguel personally, but Peter's "normal anxious nerd guy who develops superpowers, gets some courage and chooses to help society" story has a certain appeal nonetheless and I still love the Toby Maguire films to this day

>Iron Man; super genius who is too emotionally immature try to fix the world while causing even more problems
>Thor: God trying to do his best to learn how to be worthy being a deity

Spider-Man in the other hand...
>Sitcom character doing nothing all day and being a simp to a Ginger Girl who is clearly better off without him

If you don't like Spider-Man the character, that's okay, not everyone likes the same things, you might just value traits other than what he has

If you don't like that costume, though, get fucked you aesthetically impaired ignoramus

Robot armor & viking god

At the time Spidey debuted most superheroes were financially successful adults with generous amounts of disposable income, and younger heroes were relegated to sidekickdom, Spidey was the first hero to buck those trends.

>Spidey was the first hero to buck those trends
You mean Superboy comics that Spider-Man was clearly based on it/copied.

What story in superboy was about him struggling with growing up and dealing with financial problems?

what are some good spider-man 2099 comics I should get into?

He only has about 80 issues total so just start at the first issue of volume one and go from there

Spider-Man, Venom, The Punisher. Those are the guys I like.

Wouldn't hold up in court

He does whatever a spider can

For me, it’s Boy Scout characters.

>super genius that can make relatively high-tech shit out of garbage

Nope.

>has a lot of attractive women lusting over him

Nope.

>has a lot of powerful, wealthy, and influential friends in high places

Nope.

>has (had) a relatively stable job as a reporter for a minute

I had a hard time finding work even after grad school, nope.

>cares about his family

Only sociopaths and people with shitty families don't care about their families, I'll give him half on that.

I like Spider-Man's costume design, but people who push that relatable shit can sit and spin.

“Relatability” is a meme and a buzzword. What does it even mean?
>if I had superpowers I’d help people
Yeah no shit, so would everyone else.

Same here. I always liked Daredevil better.

>so would everyone else
user...

Forgot the part his biological father was a carbon coby of James Bond.

Only edgelords would be villains

>there are no bad people in the world
user...

The use of past tense in that post is very important.

Well not with Spider-Man powers at least, cops will still find and arrest you sooner or later

He was always the funny one which compared to Supes or Batman was a fresh air. Also he wasn't all about brute strenght but was always fun to watch with acrobatics and interesting web uses. Lastly he has pretty rad costume with full mask and incredibly cool black costume. Also he has some cool campy villains and at least 2 hot bitches.
Compared to Lois Lame and gay underpants well... Before modern era Avengers hype you had 3 real choices and Spidey was the only one with real powers that you'd consider.

>“Relatability” is a meme and a buzzword. What does it even mean?

It means "Character gets happy, angry, or sad over things I get happy, angry and sad over, I can relate to that!" a basic, not even exclusively human, thing.

>Yeah no shit, so would everyone else.

Look at this website, look at social media in general, I sincerely believe that I would be in the minority of people that would try to be genuine superheroes, far more would be utterly indifferent, and the rest would be unrepentant villains.

I wasn't even aware of that, but I'll add that to the list.

>I would be in the minority of people that would try to be genuine superheroes
Nice ego, bro.

>>if I had superpowers I’d help people
>Yeah no shit, so would everyone else.
Peter didn't at first. He used his powers to make money like most people would.

He should have done both.

Superman used his powers to help his personal life all the time before that, there is no "grey zone" about that unless he's breaking the law.

If I had Spidey's powers and web shooters I'd be catching cute girls in cocoons all the time.

he didn't began as a stark protegee building alien tech while fucking tessa fowler in a cat costume, user

You're fucked in the head if you believe most people will help others out just because it's the right thing to do, and not what said and try to find some financial or personal way to benefit from superheroic acts.

>a fucking Superman spin off
even Captain Marvel would have been a better comparison

I'm with you OP, but he's the only one that sells books and merchandise because he's probably the most kid friendly superhero ever, his costume is brightly colored and his persona is that of a spastic young guy who jokes around, he's literally fun incarnated

I personally really hate how Kingpin is still considered one of his villains, it completely ruins the character, I can't take Kingpin seriously if he gets beat up by a guy who constantly makes fun of him

At the end of the day people just want to make things easier for themselves and reach happiness.

The guy had his own harem and was building super genius lvl inventions since his first years plus managing to beat his bully.

Spider-Man is a clear wish fulfillment comic rather than a regular everyman.

I fucking know that, this shit was happening before the MCU.

I feel the same way about Harley Quinn.

So you're agreeing with my original point that most people will be self-serving assholes rather than actual heroes?

>I personally really hate how Kingpin is still considered one of his villains, it completely ruins the character, I can't take Kingpin seriously if he gets beat up by a guy who constantly makes fun of him
That's why TAS Kingpin is best Kingpin.

100%. Perhaps I should've started my post by saying "Indeed".

Cursed.

Not him but most people would just mind their own business rather than being assholes, otherwise our civilization would colapse. Also Spider-Man didn't invent this premise not introduced it to comics.

>our civilization would collapse
It already is, user.

If I had super powers I'd kill bad people, and I'd keep money I get from criminals and also accept payment for assassinations

Civilizations and regimes have collapsed from gross mismanagement and people becoming too fucking decadent or unruly, now add superpowers to that equation.

Case in point.

Usually they colapse due to lack of resources. Like Ancient Egypt was a solid civilization for thousands of years until they found out their soil was fucked and was too late to enforce fertility control.

>Spiderman
>real powers you'd consider.

He looks cool

Nerd power fantasy. OG Peter was a borderline school shooter, then he gets bitten by a spider, gets powers, continues to be a jerk about it, indirectly allows his uncle to be murdered, and is saddled with guilt for the rest of his life. So now he's beating up people, making fun of them, and has a dozen women wanting to bang him at all times and it's all balanced by his crippling guilt.

>Howard the Duck was Uncle Ben all along

Imo, out of all the reboots and different adaptations and interpretations and gender swaps and race swaps and alternate universe versions and rebrands, Spider-Man 2099 comes the closest to being pure Spider-Man while at the same time managing to be unique and have his own flavor. I don't know how Peter David pulled it off, but he nailed it. A shame his comics haven't been as good as his original run in the 90s
