Why is there no Yas Forums approved comics...

Why is there no Yas Forums approved comics? My girlfriend wanted to get into comics and I wanted recommendations to a newcomer. I don`t trust reddit for quality readings, guys.

We have a wiki

there is lots of co approved comics

Just ask around in the /shelf/ threads we have every couple weeks.

Besides what everyone in this thread already stated, its a matter of what you're looking for too

Animal Man sucks cock.

^ that's why

Thanks everyone.

The tumblr one? Is it updated?

Say that to my face.

this board is full of shitmunchers who love terrible comics
I wouldn't trust a single opinion posted here, unless it's somehow identical to my own

She likes captain marvel, for example. I just said there`s no good story written about her and suggested wonderwoman. But I feel like I am destroying her fun doing this. What to do, anons?

I mean, Animal Man certainly isn't a good rec for a newcomer at least.
What do you like about comics that you want to share with your girl? And what does shes like in media in general?

but there are

Would you accept recommendations by a board that loves fucking children's cartoons?

Based.

>She likes captain marvel
Leave her.
Seriously though Marvel has shit-all for great female heroes stories, and I say that as a Marvelfag. I guess she might like Aaron's Thor.

She is mostly interested about what was shown so far in the comic films. Doctor Stranger, Cap. America, Blackwidow. It`s hard to suggest her anything because I never watched those movies as I am very purist about these stories.

Fact is I am lost. Just trying to find something inbetween our taste.

>Say that to my face.
I just did, fag. You saw it with your fucking face.

If she likes Wonder Woman, I'd suggest the George Perez, Greg Rucka or Gail Simone runs.

If she likes Black Widow, I'd say check out the Marjorie Liu short run (Name of the Rose) or the Greyson/Rucka miniseries (which might be cool since they're part of what the upcoming movie is based on). If she's into Cap, the Ed Brubaker run is nice and modern.

Other than that, I'd say ask what she likes outside of comic book movies. Does she like fantasy? Maybe she'll like Sandman. Does she like crime shows? Maybe Gotham Central or Punisher MAX. See what she likes in general, not just in comic-related stuff, and suggest accordingly.

Shazam and the society of evil is great for new Captain Marvel fans, Hellboy could be cool because has a really simple way of reading, it is a story with beginning middle and end, Batman long Halloween is aways a great simple comic. Batman year one is great and doesn't have a lot of things from past stories. Swamp Thing from Allan Moore was what made me like comics so cold work for her. And the first comics from new 52 Wonder Women, Aquamen and Supermen are really great for beginners I think

>Leave her.
Not an option, she just never had the oppotunity to know whats good about comic stories.

>as a Marvelfag
What about x-men and Elektra?

>she might like Aaron's Thor
I will check it out, user. Thanks.

She also said she likes Doctor Stranger.

Captain America white is really cool (Loeb and Sale are the best), Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom is great too (and it is impossible to dislike Mignola art)

>52 Wonder Women
Is it really good?
Great recommendations, thank you.

Great perspective, user. She was really into CSI bullshit.

lurk moar, newfag

Elektra: Assassin and Elektra Lives Again

Then yeah, Gotham Central would probably be a good idea. It's one of the best procedurals in comics and has a lot of Batman and DC weirdness without going too over the top. Plus, it's pretty short. If she likes that, you can suggest she either get into Batman with stuff like Year One, or start reading other stuff by the writers, like Rucka's WW or Brubaker's Cap. Or even move into their indie stuff, like Lazarus/Stumptown and Criminal/Velvet respectively.

>Why is there no Yas Forums approved comics?

Because you need to form your own opinion and not follow the sheep herd

>What about x-men and Elektra?
X-Men are stories about X-Men. They have some charismatic chicks but they're not exactly interesting or likable once you start to read them.
Claremont is easily the defining run and while it's great, the women are mostly fetishbait or Kitty, who's a cunt. Actually she might like some Kitty Pride-centric stories too.
Maybe check out Excalibur (vol. 1).
Elektra's best story is when she gets stabbed so Daredevil is sad.

>I never watched those movies as I am very purist about these stories.
Oh come on man. They're nothing but elseworld stories. How do you expect her to make the effort if you won't?
Don't be a bitch, Iron Man is snarky this time and Spider-Man is kind of a bitch (actually that's accurate).

You know, I think you should both check out Marvels, by Busiek and Ross.

Uh
comraderecs do tumblr dot com hasn't updated in ages but it's still mostly good
I can give you recs but you have to narrow down your criteria

Attached: 1525071539226.png (706x387, 290.42K)

Those movies suck ass so I commend for deciding not to watch them vs watching them and hating them like I did until a few years ago.

Thread already helped me a lot.

It`s hard to narrow because my girlfriend never read a comic book in her entire life and only know characters through movies. She just watched a movie today and thought "oh, i liked it but maybe reading will be a much more rich and entertaining".

>She likes captain marvel
Based. Get her Brian Reeds run

what movie? if it's a cape movie look up some stories with the characters on the movie

>the women are mostly fetishbait
You either are butthurt or actually haven't read it. X-men is the property known for having the most strong female protagonists. And just being sexy isn't fetish bait.

Why did they took two years to publish the rest of anniversary collection

>Those movies suck ass
Nah, they're alright. Though I guess you're right that if he fears he'll be offended he won't like them he's probably right to avoid them.

It might also be worthwhile checking the x-men run after Chris Claremont made Captain Marvel part of the x-men.

seconding that rec, The Brood Saga is one of the best X-Men storylines.

You don't even know what the word "protagonist" means. Kitty under Claremont is probably the only character in X-Men history that qualifies as a protagonist proper. She's a fully realized character, but she's a cunt. She's much more sufferable in Excalibur for reasons.
The other female characters just have some lame-ass quirks like Rogue whose only interesting plot is she can't fuck (nothing fetishy here), or Jean who becomes much more interesting but also promiscuous once she gets taken over by an ancient alien firebird which also turns X-Men into love triangle bullshit for forever, or Storm who's... stern and nothing else consistently.
Then you've got Emma Frost, who's.generally portayed as somewhat antagonistic but is probably the best X-Woman in terms of character complexity. There's asterisks to how much one might enjoy her but she's probably the most "writable" character.
I hate X-23 but she's got trashy eurocomic-tier depth, which is more than you can say about most female mutants
>inb4 Magik, Jubilee, Psylocke
breh

Rogue has a TON more depth that just that, her relationship with Mystique for one left her very confused and damaged. She's the one character of all the X-Men who's had the most character development over the decades, she joined the X-men when she was about 16 and was allowed to grow.
Storm had a lot of development too, feeling like she was a goddess, then learning that wasn't really it and then losing her powers. Meeting Yukio and deciding to continue to be a hero instead of quitting.
Emma was just a villain under Claremont so I have no clue why you bring her up.
Jean was a nothing character and Claremont actually did something with her and created an interesting character arc for her. Not his fault he she was brought back to life without his knowledge.
And then you have all the New Mutants Claremont created.

Rogue has a LOT of depth, depth I want to fill up to the brim!

I finished re-reading Invincible a couple days ago so I feel comfortable saying it fucking rips

Invincible and Ultimate Spider-Man are the two best long-running superhero comics I've ever come across. One writer, one consistent vision.

Attached: Invincible_#01_cvr.jpg (974x1517, 380K)

Reddit sidebar reco's are generally pretty good. Why see you being such an autist?

>ultimate spider-man

The best long-running superhero comic is Peter David's X-Factor.

Attached: Go fuck yourself, Madrox.jpg (799x601, 77.36K)

Ultimate Spider-Man is 160ish issues of absolute fucking brilliance. It reinterprets Spider-Man's history with the benefit of hindsight, but isn't above flipping the script when it makes for something interesting or surprising.

You seriously don't like the original USM? I didn't even know that was possible.

kek, I just started reading that tonight. Loving it

IT KEEPS HAPPENING

based true captain marvel here

There are no good Wonder Woman books.
There are no good Captain Marvel books.
There are no good Doctor Strange books, but Marvel 1602 features Doctor Strange prominently.
There are no good Thor books.
There are no good Captain America books, I don't think.
There are no good Black Widow books.

Good female-led superhero comics are hard to find.
Promethea is good, but may not be to her taste.
Batwoman has good art when JH Williams III is drawing. The writing is nothing special.
Other than that... you're on your own.
Oh wait... Runaways! Get her to read Brian K Vaughan's Runaways! There you go. Solved it. Super-team with 3 young women and 2 young men. Plenty of estrogen.

>There are no good Thor books.
>There are no good Captain America books, I don't think.
These are both wrong. Simonson's Thor is beloved by all. Gruenwald's work on Captain America was pretty good and Brubaker's is really high quality too.

>I'm cocksure
>now I doub myself
>I've regained confidence through getting cocked
>rince and repeat
So fucking interesting. It's on the level of a rape and revenge B-movie character development.
I talked about Emma Frost because precisely she's one of the best parts of a writer other than Clarement's run. Claremont never managed to write a single female character that I wanted to read about
>Jean was a nothing character and Claremont actually did something with her and created an interesting character arc for her. Not his fault he she was brought back to life without his knowledge.
Well that much is true. but it was the Phoenix being interesting moreso than her.
>And then you have all the New Mutants Claremont created.
Most of them sucked.

>There are no good Doctor Strange books
Lee/Dikto, Englehart, Gillis, Stern
>There are no good Thor books
Simonson, JMS
>There are no good Captain America books
Gruenwald, 90s Waid, Brubaker

Why the fuck do casuals pretend to be an authority on everything without reading jack shit?

None of those would be good to recommend to someone new.

>Oh no, he figured out I'm a casual, better lie and say that nothing on the list would be good to recommend to anyone

Pathetic

>None of those would be good to recommend to someone new.
Bollocks. Any of them are alright for a guy new to comics, unlike what casuals think you don’t need encyclopedic knowledge to jump on a run

>>I am a gigantic faggot, please rape my face

> I don`t trust reddit for quality readings, guys.

Why do people continue with this act? The reading lists there are good and so many people here, not all but many, have reddit accounts as well. You can respond and say you don't to make yourself feel special but so many fuckers from reddit and this site have the same type of humor and regurgitate the same boring jokes over and over again.

People here even bitch about reddit the exact same way reddit does about itself. There is basically no difference between the typical person who is on Yas Forums vs typical person on reddit.

Comics are for faggots
Hrow up

>Hrow up
Haq Sbarro?

Because fuck reddit, that's why

Bone. Just buy Bone.

No, Bone is only good if you're a little kid

>Why is there no Yas Forums approved comics? My girlfriend wanted to get into comics and I wanted recommendations to a newcomer.
you are so new, it hurts

Bone’s got some pretty masterful cartooning. It’s kiddie shit but it’s good kiddie shit, comparable to the difference between Watership Down and Harry Potter or something like that.
