Is Steven Universe even popular with kids? How is it this is a franchise with 5 seasons, 1 movie, and a spin-off series and I never see it outside of animation communities, compared to Adventure Time where I can still find shirts in random shops. Or is it just popular with the LGBT community and CN felt like they couldn't cancel it without sending a bad message?
Is Steven Universe even popular with kids? How is it this is a franchise with 5 seasons, 1 movie...
Hard to say, since people on Yas Forums/tumblr/reddit etc are skewed towards teenagers and up. I have a cousin who's about 13 or 14 who watches it.
It's commercially successful. Despite what Yas Forums might tell you, cartoons that aren't successful get shitcanned, "progressive" or not.
Its probably successful enough, i don't even know what kids like these days anyway, i don't care
I've worked with elementary school kids a few times and have seen/heard them mention certain cartoons, but never noticed them mention Steven Universe.
Every time I've seen the show referenced IRL or someone with merchandise etc., it's been a teenager or college student or adult (like late 20s/early 30s is the oldest I've seen). Youngest person I saw into it was 13/14.
all anecdotal, yeah, but this whole thread's mostly going to be
Never seen a single kid talk about it, and I had a teaching assistant's job. My nephew has never even heard of it, and my niece thinks it's some old cartoon from the 80s or 90s that only adults watch for nostalgia.
I doubt Sugar even was thinking of kids when it was created. The target audience is the dye-hairs, no one else. And I don't even hate the show, it's just true.
My niece is in 8th grade and he really likes peridot. but kids for what I know usually tend to watch popular anime like BnH or One Piece instead of cartoons.
What's wrong with him
Why does he look like that
Adventure Time became a phenomenon between kids and adults, including people who are not into cartoons. Steven Universe only became popular with Tumblr, emotionally stunted teenagers and the They/Them crowd. It's not a very popular show outside internet culture
Kids didn't watch AT user.
It's just adult creeps and manchildren.
Who consequently ended up taking over and turning it into the absolute worst shit you can imagine.
Jsut a bunch of creeps with narratives to push and frustrated talentless wannabe artists shitting out a horror show.
I bet kids rather watch youtubers on their phones than whatever retardation is on TV. My sister watched AT only because i was watching it during college days. Other than gumball and gravity falls, never got into any show and SU make her fell asleep.
Wrong. I was there when AT came out and it was huge with kids and preteens. Keep in mind that i live in Argentina, so i can only imagine how popular it must have been in america.
well when you live in a shithole it's skewed more towards "who can even afford a tv and electricity". I love it when rich third worlders who probably have a better quality of life then most americunts try to tell us what life is like there. you're an outspoken minority.
>Or is it just popular with the LGBT community and CN felt like they couldn't cancel it without sending a bad message?
Ding ding ding.
Seems like a lot of money to pump into a brownie point show with diminishing returns. The art books and soundtracks sell well, but there's no way the show can sustain it's entire existence on that. Where are all the gem toys for children to play with? Why are those not feature spots on Amazon during the SU Movie release? This show should be shitting out as much merchandise as Harry Potter.
No it isn't nigga.
user, it's not got any merch because no one really likes it.
It's propoganda backed bullshit with no real world fucks given for it.
Tadaaaaa
If they put out SU toys they'll reveal how little it's actually liked by the target demo...or any demo.
Its also why this show gets those "steven bombs" every once in a while and never gets reran.
Like AT was later on.
To hide how much people actually dislike it and not allow it to be scrutinized.
Reminder than not even 2015 SU was as huge as MLP back in 2011 and 2012.
well it's a much more merchandised franchise, decades old, and bronies are an unprecedented phenomenon possibly on the level of the OG furries from the 70s.
SU spergs at least keep it to Yas Forums. MLP fans were a total menace for years.
This show really isn't that popular.
Reminder that merely 2% of america actively uses and posts on twitter and that number is probably way lower for tumblr. what you see on those sites is not reality.
I want to poke Amethyst's fat butt.
I've worked at an elementary school for 3 years and can't recall any kids talking about SU. They like Disney, superheroes, Youtube crap, and wildly inappropriate things like IT or Five Nights as Freddy's.
I want to munch Lapis' blueberry pie
I was stopped by a girl no older than 11 when I went to NY Comic Con because she liked my Steven cosplay. I think that's the only time I have ever seen a child who watched the show though
This, people shit on the bomb format but is the only reason SU is still talked about.
Is that why there were no Regular Show or Gumball toys?
Hello chico
of course girls like it, its a show about faggy musical numbers and talking about your fee-fees
SU's popularity peaked from around the middle of season 2 to start of the Summer of Steven and had been on a gradual decline ever since. That's when people were scrambling to find merchandise and what little there was was selling out rapidly, and SU threads were some of the fastest on the entirety of Yas Forums, Yas Forums or otherwise. I don't know if it was ever popular with kids, but if it was it would have been popular then and not really so much now.
He was drawn by a shitty artist trying to do a cartoony deformation expression
A weirdo qt latina girl used to wear her homemade steven star shirt everyday to my speech class
All the kids I know usually just watch TTGO or Spongebob
Its mostly the fags at my university that pine over this shit (normally the ones in social studies)
You could've smashed
It did alright with kids (but not great with kids like Adventure Time, TTG! or Roar)
Regular show is the wrong kind of show for toys.
Gumball can have a lot of cute little....quirky toys. BUt nothing really.
The former is about shwag sales and 80's early 90's nostalgia.
The latter is just the kind of SJW hatey crap that is the norm now but manages to be entertaining regardless.
Did great with kids.
AT or Thundercats Roar
The Cartoon Network shills aren't even subtle about it anymoe.
This. We can presume that it getting five seasons and a (Made for TV) movie that it was a profitable venture for Cartoon Network, and that absolutely includes toy and merch sales.
It's propoganda/gay agenda bucks user.
It makes no money
It sells no shwag
The show and movies do unbelievably poorly
It's just a big congame.
Despite what anons will lead you to believe, the show does turn a profit. It’s not popular with children, but among teenagers and young adults it was huge and made more than enough money to survive. There is no woke conspiracy
Stop referring to swag as "shwag", holy fuck. I don't think that SU sold that much either but you can shwag my fucking dick.
Do you really think that Warner Bros cares in the slightest about the "Gay Agenda"?
If it didn't make money the show would have been canceled long before being allowed to end naturally.
Your clit is not a penis user.
And no, I do not go down on women I've never talked too.
Too many bad memories and bad flavors.
YES
THEY DO
THEY MADE GAL GADOT INTO WW AND BITCH CAN NOT ACT!!
They also hard push gays and gay stuff in their media.
>Gal Gadot
>Gay agenda
are you actually 50 years old? genuine question
Fuck trannies and fuck SUfaggots just use the right fucking word nigga
Oh shut the fuck up you mutt. Do you really believe everyone here lives in mud huts and that only the super rich can afford a TV? Almost everyone has one you fucking retard, otherwise it wouldn't be popular you dumb fuck.
You're too stupid to live user.
Fix that.
What?
can you give one example of an overtly lgbt/progressive show that has been cancelled?
It's "swag", not "shwag". Shwag is not a word. I came into this thread to shit on SU but you've ignited my autism instead.
well yeah, you have to struggle for water and finding pieces of sheet metal to build your shack with, even if you had a tv I doubt you'd have time to sit on your ass and watch cartoons all day. what the fuck.
kids know dick and have no good taste.
Do people from Latin America really refer to Americans as "mutts" online? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black
Take off your tinfoil hat, user
So did you, you know.
At least spics admit that they have poop in their DNA
No, just stupid gringos, from what I can tell
Kek, even the indigenous poor people on Bolivia can afford a shitty TV and watch everything on pirated DVD's because there are no cable TV on their little towns and satelital TV is vey expensive
Maybe, but I don't have to wageslave 20 years to pay my student debt.
Well yeah I'm a mestizo, but least I admit it.
Did the show produce any merch and toys? I'd expect funkos but I haven't seen any.
Ive heard some kids but mostly preteens .
No idiot.
This shit gets no toys
This shit gets no merch
This shit doesn't even sell dvds
It's trash.
>TTG
>roar
>great with kids
Kids will watch anything, that's the problem. As long as it's a cartoon they'll watch it. And it will shape their tastes and perceptions as the grow up. that's the dangerous part.
Because you don't have a university to go to you beaner.
haven't seen a kid talk about anything tv-related in a long time. It's all youtubers, vidya, and anime usually battle shounen
It got some funkos and a handful of basic merchandise like plushes and keychains but nothing really interesting. You can look up "Steven Universe merchandise" to find some examples
No, I never watched the money shows and that squirrel shit of CN even when there was nothing more on TV I watched Discovery Channel or Animal Planet instead, children are not that simple.
A few years ago I was at a Cicis pizza buffet with a friend and over heard a few girls talking about SU, I didn't get a good look to see how old they were but I think they were around 15-19. that is the only time I heard anyone talk about SU in public, But my stoner friend and I would watch it and gumball together and later I found out his new girlfriend watched it. Also some girls I played D&D with, talked about it once but they weren't up to date so I didn't get to talk about it with them because I didn't want to spoil anything. It absolutely wouldn't have been renewed so often if it wasn't making money.
>Well I'm an exception to your claim so that means you're wrong!
