If you're talking about being a fan of a certain cartoon, I'm taking it seriously because I care about it. So if I see it having a terrible episode I feel disappointed because I know the writers could do better and I still have faith in them. This is how I felt with Simpsons for a long time but I finally managed to give up and realize that it's not the same show it used to be and it will never be like that. So I just don't care anymore.
But if you're talking about fapping to shotacon and lolicon, I agree. It's just a cartoon and no real people are hurt, so any art should be possible to create.
