The plot thinnens
Dumbing of Age
>It's a 40-year-old man is mad at his parents for making him go to Church instead of watching TV when he was a child episode
Didn't Dave drop out of college?
Yes, within the first year
MAN CHRISTIANITY IS SO BAD AND AWFUL, NOT LIKE THOSE PEACEFUL RELIGIONS THAT KILL PEOPLE FOR BEING GAY FUCK YOU DAD FUCK YOU MOM AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH WHY DOES MY LIFE SUCK SO HARD I ONLY GOT THE IPHONE 5
41 year old now
I don't understand. Amber and Amazi-girl have both been seen together. Why would he think that?
Does he think she as Amazi-girl jump on his car then change back to her street clothes as the accident took place and then slug him?
but that's why he doesn't think Joyce is amazi-girl
Wow I'm stupid. I totally misread Amber name for Joyce. My brain is still recovering from watching Lord of the rings until 2 am last night.
Theatrical or Extended?
Extended
Nice - I actually just finished listening to the old BBC radio play version the other day, might give the extendeds a rewatch sometime though
Buckle the fuck up if you do. Although after watching the movie. I can say, it's a good, well made movie. The CG aged a bit, but they don't use sparingly at least in the fellowship. It's long but God damn if the actors aren't fucking nailing it every scene.
Nice, I listened to the radio version years ago and it was pretty kino (though it gets a bit weak around the Minas Tirith bits at the end IIRC), lots of great voicework overall.
Offtopic, but, I’ve recently come to realize that I don’t know fuckall about christianity, and it might be kinda useful to learn a little about it, or at least some of the stories in it. Short of the obvious choices like joining a church or actually reading the bible, anyone have recommendations for where I can get a decent introduction that isn’t gonna bore me to tears?
I dunno try reading Gustave doré bible illustrations. His art is so amazing it make you want to read the stories in the bible
I do love me some Doré. He did a great job with Paradise Lost and The Divine Comedy too.
>church bad
Called it.
Everyone in the church is in on this.
For understanding tenets and beliefs of Christianity, I'd recommend 'Mere Christianity' by CS Lewis.
As far as core stories of the Judeo-Christian tradition, I'd unironically recommend finding a good illustrated children's bible - they tend to focus on the two dozen or so most fundamental and important biblical stories and 'trim the fat' so to speak. There's also a lot of good biblical epic films centered around those more important stories - Ten Commandments, Prince of Egypt, King of Kings, Barrabas, Ben-Hur, The Robe, etc.
>a good illustrated children's bible
If only there were a Lamb’s Shakespeare-ish version of the bible with Doré’s art, that’d be sweet.
Honestly given that society is falling apart I think it's still funny people make stories like this
>THE YOUNGER GENERATION IS HIP AND DOWN WITH THE GAYS AND SHIT
The younger generation will have a lifespan 5-20 years less than their parents because they are so retarded. Oh well, I guess it's mostly about protecting myself from the plebs at this point.
Oh and followup thought- Willis is a middleaged man but he clearly still thinks of himself as being the same age as he was 20 years ago when he was still a youngfag running around, or 10 years ago when he was a somewhat less youngfag reflecting on his college years in comic form. Sad.
Fuck all that gay shit he mentioned, just go straight into proscribed books like the beliefs of the Cathars and Bogomils and Gospel of Thomas. Gotta ride the train laden with explosives straight into the temple of the demiurge to free humanity from the hell that is material existence and return us to the spirit world.
>lemme just one-hand catch this two hundred pound womanatee while riding a motorcycle at 80 miles per hour
I honestly want to know how Joyce knew immediately how to counter balance with a single prompt in such a short window of time
Check out the podcast Apocrypals, they cover both the bible and apocryphal texts and ralk about the historical context of things including where specific traditions came from, what actually was declared heretical and when, shit like that
Since the truck is that close with speedlines coming out of it how fast is the motorcycle moving to get past without getting crushed?
Thanks
Moses was the greatest sinner in the Bible.
He broke all Ten Commandments at once.
Wikipedia for starters. At some point you're not going to be able to avoid actually cracking open the Bible, but at the core the Old Testament is primarily history and religious law, while the New Testament is primarily a biography of Jesus and religious philosophy. Mere Christianity has already been mentioned, it's considered a masterwork of modern apologetics. The real kicker is that most of what Christianity is isn't going to be found in the Bible, it's a matter of church doctrine which has been built over 2000 years and split by denomination. Fortunately, most church doctrine isn't really relevant to the layperson and there is a lot of overlap between denominations. I'd say all you really need to know are the basic doctrinal differences between Catholicism and Protestantism, and the doctrinal differences between the major Protestant sects, and that will cover you for most anything unless you live in an area with a lot of Orthodox, Coptic, or any of the smaller independent branches of Christianity.
It explains why he has no fucking idea how actual colleges operate
IIRC, he dropped out of his first college, but later went to a different school.
That's even worse
That's probably why he intends to keep them in freshman year forever.
write what you know, I guess
It's more that he was living off-campus and working during his second stint at college and doesn't really have an idea about campus life for upperclassmen. Which going by my own college experience is that everyone moves off campus and gets a job.
What's his thing with that comic? There are plenty of shitty comics, what's the deal?
A lot of people in the mid/late 00's were dunking on Funky Winkerbean for its direction. Hell, Mara Wilson even referenced this other comic Willis did while on Twitter.
Almost everything from CS Lewis is a great start. "The Screwtape Letters" and "The Four Loves" handle it from a unique perspective.
100% agree. And yet these sycophants eat up his every word as if he knows even the first thing about what it is like to be a young person today.
I find it especially insulting that he claims Joyce as his author avatar, as if what she experiences is the same as what he did.
Soooo like, did he almost get raped, get attacked multiple times by parents, fall for a black guy, shelter a friend in need, or literally anything that forms the basis of the story of who Joyce is as a person?
You know how much I love you guys now that we are finally back? I still have something very, very special that I curated just for y'all, like, 2 or 3 years ago.
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

>still missing the latest slipshines
meh
Thanks. But if I have a quibble you should really separate out Willis' porn, the edits, and the non-Willis smut.
I haven't worked on it in years, lol. I haven't found the rips of any other ones yet.
If anyone does have them, let me know!
Will do!
>I'm letting one of you go
>Don't do anything stupid
to be fair in willis' mindset calling the cops would reveal the cops are all catholic and stand beside toedad and the masked lisper
Toedad's the smartest character in the strip right now. Amber's psychological issues will prevent her from going to the cops while Becky's kneejerk need to be the center of attention will cause her to show up in an attempt to save everyone.
But what he couldn't foresee is the arrival of a gun-toting US Representative looking for a couple of approval points from rescuing kidnap victims.
I think it's similar to his hatred of christianity. Funky Winkerbean is such a clear linfluence on his work and storytelling style, especially his early Roomies stuff, and he's embarrassed by this and feels a need to shit on it to prove he's above it now.
>fall for a black guy
2bh makes you wonder if willis has a thing for black dudes. Walky was half-black and Joyce's romantic partner in his other comics, but this time he's got Evangelical Christian giganigga coming in to bang Joyce. Kinda gay.
Doesn't Willis view catholics as spooky though? Toedad is some kind of fundie baptist midwestern church.
All his character are self inserts. Really kinda fascinating if you look at it from a psychoanalytic perspective.
>funky winkerbean
You mean the one which was about an unironic boomer 20yo who was having funtimes in the 1970s, then the 2000s era turns into a dark walk through alcoholism, younger friends KIA or having their dreams squashed and failed romances?
He probably thinks they're a little weird, a lot of Prots do the same. Though I imagine Joyce's freakout over a crucifix was far closer to a person anecdote than he'd care to admit.
The strip actually started going dark in the 90's. Willis started Roomies in 1997

>48 years
So funky is retired now
I thought Willis never read Funky until the mid-00's? He did Roomies in the late 90's.
Surprisingly not yet, he's still running the pizza place. But what I wanna know is if Batiuk will do a Coronavirus storyline. Think about it, so many characters he has could get affected by it because they're over 60.
I was under the impression that it was low-hanging fruit so it was easy to make fun of.
My headcanon is that he fell in love with a black dude in college that he wished he'd confessed his feelings for.
Somewhere out there is a gay black man who wakes up every morning feeling like he dodged a bullet and can't figure out why.
He said he's trying hard to not be Funky Winkerbean.
Too late!
