Honestly, that last thread made me really open to the idea of using meta to introduce a mystery.
Like what if the pilot was cannon and the sudden unmentioned disappearance of Shane was actually a part of the story or overarching plot?
I know it'll never actually happen in this story because the lawsuit that killed the company but a pilot to a full series seems like the only way to pull off that sort of meta story-line.

Yeah, the actual show is just an illusion that endless trapped Reggie in and Todd&Esther are not real but her subconscious trying to get her free.
