Sidecuts and most types of alt-female hairstyles have been forever tarnished by woke whales who have hijacked things like punk aesthetics to symbolize they rebel against the system, when truth is they just want to control it. As someone who likes sidecuts, they really only look good on a select group of women in real life, and even amongst those that do manage to pull it off, it's a signal that majority of them are bad news and/or have issues.
Fictional female characters often don't suffer from the former issue due to the way they're designed, but it is a design feature that's often abused as an example of the "female character goes through emotional development, so they cut their hair short to visualize it" trope used by hack writers.
