Marco was NOT in love with Star until Season 3 came and began pushing that shit on him with moronic Tad suggesting it, then we can be sure that the Bloodmoon curse was starting to get stronger and forcing him to believe that and change his mindset.

Whoever designed Marco (Daron was not because her marco was a boy who likes Dragon Ball and therefore hates/dislikes Star and are enemies until they start becomming friends) had some ideas that unfortunately didn't make it post Season 2.
For example: He is the only child in his house, but had many other kids his age living under the same roof, all of them were only for a while, this creates in a child a sensation of need, he needs a sibling, because he managed to make bonds with all of those kids and then they had to go away. This is WAY TOO OBVIOUS during season 1, with episodes where Marco acts like an older brother caring or protecting Star as a sister rather than a friend, yes even when he went to take her out of the bloodmoon ball was because of this, he saw Star as a dumb "lil sis" that was too naive to notice when someone had bad intentions, or when they meet Mina and he even goes sit on a bench.

If anything, the moment Mariposa appeared he should have tell Star to fuck herself, he finally had a lil sister that was not going to leave his side.

You seem to forget two things:
1. The show was intended to be 2 seasons and a good-bye TV movie but thanks to the good job in S2 (reflected in the audience increasing around 10 times) Disney wanted more.
2. The crew fucked up when they tried to delete the previous cemented stuff. And rewrite more just so that starco goes from shitty forced shit to "cute love at first sight"

Let's make this clear:
