Is TS2 really underrated? People don't talk about it as much as 1 or 3, but as far as I can recall most people would place it above the original at least.

I kinda like early Dreamworks. They offered a more mature alternative to Pixar. It wasn't until Madagascar when their films became aimed solely at kids, with the rare exception here and there.

A Bug's Life is a pretty political and not-even-subtly anti rent-seeking message that's completely ignored because it's a children's movie.
Antz is a considerably more boring political drama in comparison.

Antz' tone wasn't as directly child-focused as A Bug's Life, yeah. Neither is subtle, yeah.

A Bug's Life is legit based and I'm sad it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It's an animated classic.

Bug's Life always nagged me because of how unusually dark and cynical it was, and sure this is in comparison to later movies, but it always felt like such a black sheep. I also hate movies that center around keeping a secret because they always end up developing the same.
It just feels like an early 2000s Dreamworks movie to me more than what I think of when I think of Pixar.

The colony in Bug's Life had emphaty for each other, whereas the one in Antz feels like every individual is only thinking of himself. It's far more cynical
