Writer must REALLLY love Crazy Rich Asians, and they didn't like the idea of making a White guy the end game for her self insert Selina so this is why Jack Napier going to be a White incel.

Wait, do you mean show runners or fans? Because when I look at stuff like Selina from super hero girls, it's obvious they're influenced by the Eartha adaption. If a fan doesn't know about the Eartha Kitt one and wants a black one...who cares? Maybe they'll be introduced to the campy Batman and Eartha-cat through this newest Selina.

Honestly, looking at the trailer the joker adaption rubs me the wrong way most, but it's pretty damn obvious this isn't for me and with all the multiverses going around, I can't be bothered to feel anything more than "huh".

May pick the book up for the Riverdale/Gossip Girl/Teen Drama-loving students in my classroom though.

By that point i expect a "Gotham Kids" series where kid Joker and kid Batman are having wacky adventures like Joker stealing last cookie or pulling the hair of Selina Kyle.

Why is this not an original story? Sounds like the only thing that connects this to the Batman universe are the names and some loosely adopted character traits. This reminds me so much of 50 Shades of Grey - change the names and it's a completely new story.

Does it matter? It's not like it's connected to the mainline books in any way. This is something that's supposed to draw-in tween and teen girls, it's not meant to appeal to us at all.

She was white for more episodes of the 60s show than she was black. Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt were both iconic depictions. The former just had more episodes.

It's the problem with all the books in this push really. They're probably fine for their genre but a lot of them are just generic girlshit that is hardly a dive into what the characters actually are. It's what creates obnoxious fandom rending fights about what version is "correct." Maybe that's giving them too much credit but if I wanted to entice younger girls into certain characters I wouldn't want to give them these. It might work for as an intro to comics overall...maybe.

True, but most of the world does not know or care about the details. They think of Catwoman as a character who can be either color which is why people keep doing it. Hell I'm pretty sure they just cast a black woman to play her in the new DC movies.

Two words:
BRAND RECOGNITION.

Batman is a brand that already pays dividends, so the company can invest into releasing this story with the guarantee that slapping Batman characters onto this story will guarantee it to make money. New characters are too risky and don't come with that guarantee.
To the higher ups, it doesn't matter if this story is Batman In Name Only and that there is no way that anything there makes sense in canon.
Someone will buy it, and it might even reach the teen drama loving audience.
From a corporate standpoint, I get it. As a fan, I roll my eyes.
