In Nephrite defense, she was already teased in the intro along with the characters that got appearances in Future. She also had more appearances in the original series that had to do with mental issues and Steven really wanted to help her. This was an opportunity for her to play her part in I Am My Monster.

The finale seemed to be setting up some future series. They even gave Steven new powers late in the season.

The hug scene is supposed to be the emotional climax where everything comes together, but without Jasper, you are missing a piece.

That’s not enough and doesn’t deal with the multiple issues she has. How the fuck is getting shattered on a fight a proper resolution in a show that teaches you violence isn’t the answer? If anything that fight left her way more messed up and Steven washed his hands on the whole affair.

She's a soldier without an army. It would be a fun spin off of her going to the now freed worlds and enacting order in those chaotic gem worlds.

Think about it. She'd be the one mythical figure that almost everyone heard about. The solitary gem from earth who fought against the rebellion, the toughest of nails from the war, the perfect cut. We could find out more of her life after the rebellion but before steven. Who knows, maybe she had a high status pearl herself that she left behind and kinda forgot about as her obsession with rose quartz grew.
